Re: a/c in as vert? hmmmm
Not very often, but when I do I'm glad it's there for two reasons . . .
- When it's really hot. When temps get well over 30degC (>100degF). While this doesn't happen very often where I live, the odd time it does, it's sure nice to be able to put the top up and be comfortable.
- When it's humid and/or raining. Having defrost blowing with AC does a way better job to prevent windshield fogging (possible safety issue as well).
That's just for me. Everyone's different. If mine was a daily driver, I'd definitly have it without question. But if it's only out on the odd sunny Sunday, then not having AC wouldn't as important.

Re: a/c in as vert? hmmmm
I had my old Pontiac ragtop with no a/c in Florida and in summer you would roast like a pig on a spit with the top down in the summer! Oh how I wished that car had cool a/c !!!!!!! Even here in NY in the middle of summer I hate to ride my Z cuz the a/c cools poorly and the sun roasts you thru the t-tops! So I ride either my Caddy or truck with nice n cold a/c instead!
(The ol' lady don't like to get hot n sticky whens shes all prettied up...lol)
Anyhoo...............IMO to remove the a/c box and plumbing devalues those nice and gettin' rare clean and unmolested Z verts ! If your a/c don't work and you don't want to fix it I would just pull the a/c compressor belt and ride on!

Re: a/c in as vert? hmmmm
I'm not a big A/C guy, especially in a vert. But I wouldn't take it either. Caught in the rain, or needing to put the top up if you didn't sunblock the kids. Taking the wife/gf/date out ... You might not care about A/C, but I've found others do. I don't use it often, but those times when I do are pretty important for one reason or another.

Re: a/c in as vert? hmmmm
i lived in the florida keys for about 10yrs. ( my real home ) . loved to take my "T" tops off and cruise , with the A.C. going full blast . sun is fun but heat is a killer . i would see "snowbirds" all the time with their rental convertibles , top down , A.C. going full blast . my advice would be to not remove the system .

If my 'vert had working ac, I would probably drive it more often........
I think I only put 300 miles on it last year

A/C is useless in a vert, mine never worked when I got it so I ripped it out and got an A/C delete pulley and got an A/C delete heater box from the wrecker. Can it be too hot for the top down? Not where I live.

Re: a/c in as vert? hmmmm
i live in fl. ive got 2 black verts. Both will have new working A/c systems by the end of the year.
The one thing people always forget is that verts have no drip rails. Even with a little rain, drizzle even. you turn the wipers on and the water is coming in. Now add some heat and humidity.
summer in fla flat out suck. 95+ 100% humidity and its raining somewhere in the state all the time.
the other 6 months drop the top and roll out.

I agree with SONJAAB, unless you are racing and concerned about the extra weight, just pull the belt. Whether you fix it now or later, it is likely you will need to retrofit with new refrigerant. Leaving it installed will let you or the next owner do the job with all the old parts still on the car.

I use my A/C every day from mid june to about now in the year ~ got up to 105 this year
Re: a/c in as vert? hmmmm
I typically use the ac alot in the summer. Even when the top is down. Mostly to keep air flowing around my feet. Having a all black car is the reason. Just plain gets hot down on the floor.

I live in Calgary and although we dont get many days when it's needed (especially this summer) I wish my vert had been built with AC, It's a convenience accessory and its nice to have when you want it.
