Re: OUCH!!!!!

WOW that sucks.

Is the frame bent? In the first photo, it looks like the whole *** end got swung towards the passenger side because the door doesn't line up. However, in the rest of the photos other than the tails and the quarter being banged up abit it looks like it wouldn't be TOO difficult to patch back up.

I would have been STRONGLY inclined to do the same thing but you can't exactly go out and beat down an 85 year old man.

If my Camaro EVER gets taken out which I hope and pray that day never comes, I sincerely hope that It's death comes at the hand of a perfectly fit adult male.

Yeah that way you won't feel bad beating his A**
I had a chic following right on my tail the other day, which i can't stand
I rolled my window down and motioned get back, get off my A**, she did.
I totally respect the space of others, not only that I don't want any sudden stops that could cause me to rear end someone.

I really am sorry to hear that that happened to you, did the old guy have good insuance? Well I hope you get a good price on the damage.

I have full cover on the car but according to the lady of the insurance they're gonna have to total the car which I'm not happy with. she told me that after I get the check I can keep the car with a salvage certificate. I'm going to take the car today so they can look at it then I will know more

Having a manual valvebody, I simply downshift on tailgaters

Sorry about your car, I got rear ended in my g/f's 78 camaro early last year...the damage wasn't bad at all....totally fixable. They wanted to total out the car too, but that was a big mistake telling my girlfriend that. She read them the riot act (they were also trying to get out of providing a rental car too) and ended up getting a check and a rental until she settled. Hold out and get an attorney if possible, or at least give 'em a whole mess of trouble. It's there job to rape you like that.

they are only supposed to consider it totaled if the damage will cost more than the value of the car. tell them you want it fixed instead of "totaled" did they give you a price on the car yet?

Re: OUCH!!!!!

LOL. They're giving me more than what I paid for the car and I can keep it with clean title. they wanna give me 2,500 and I found a shop that would fix it and paint the whole car for 2,000 + parts. So I think this is a no brainer.

Re: OUCH!!!!!

Glad they were able to make you happy without totalling your car.

JTS has it wrong. They didn't want to total my 78, they didn't want to pay the value of replacement parts for my Camaro. They wanted to use the prices for a 3rd gen and then told me they couldn't locate all the parts and didn't want to accept the price of the parts in restoration catalogs. They also didn't want to pay for a rental even though I couldn't drive my car. I went off on them for both and got my way without totalling my car out.

Re: OUCH!!!!!

dude that sucks, but glad it's working out. it's stories like these i'm bookmarking for the unfortunate day someone hits my 92 Z. much like i motorcycle (there are those that have and those that will drop it) i can hope the day never comes, but people aren't getting any more sane or smarter when driving, so it's only a matter of time..... but by bookmarking this and other at-least then i can prove that other people have been getting their cars fixed without being totaled.

Seems pretty cheap! Is it a good shop with a well known reputation? Reason I ask is I just picked up a convertible, that the guy who owned it prior to me had it painted. This "professional" paint job included painting the door handles, locks, plastic protector under the back of the convertible top, moldings stayed on the car, etc.
Needless to say my hubby is going to be redoing the whole car.
Good thing this is his line of work!

Re: OUCH!!!!!

2k plus parts is not bad. they should be able to give you a decent job. if it were a color change, that would be much different tho.
stupid question but are you sure it's not going to have a salvage title? not sure in your state but here in ma. a salvage title car needs to go threw a dmv inspection. (pita)

Re: OUCH!!!!!

Good thing they can fix the rear quarter panel -- you can't get those anymore except from junkyards. I've had a heck of a time finding parts for anything past the doors for my verts.

Sorry it happened, looks like it might work out for you anyway.

Re: OUCH!!!!!

At least there is a silver lining at the end of this tragedy. I cant beleive that he said the car pulled in front of him. Someone should let the local psychiatrist see his statement and you might get your wish by way of his losing his license. I feel for you. I looked for almost 20 years for my vert and finally found the car I wanted; a triple black 90 iroc or a 92 25th car. Ended up with a 25th car and if an old man hit it especially with it parked and then say what he said; I can imagine you were beside yourself.

Re: OUCH!!!!!

That insurance adjuster doesn't know what he/she is talking about.

Book values on 3rd gens are going way up. When I bought it trucker dropped it off trailer, slid across I95 in FL and wacked a pole. Long story. But two adjusters appraised car replacement value at around $9K. I got a check for $6200 to get it fixed .... they never asked what I paid, irrelivant ... its what is it worth.

This was how they delivered it to me ... not how I bought it.
So I got the check and fixed it up, new paint, tires, eng work ... in the end worked out, and no salvage title either.

Re: OUCH!!!!!

Jersey89gta, way back in 1993 a friend ordered a brand new silverado and it fell off of a train in route to his dealer. It is rare but those weird things do happen. The day I bought my 90 ZR-1 I drove it three blocks and a women was beating one of her kids in the back seat and veared into my lane and I had to drive into someones yard to keep from having a head on.
