tonneau question
so i just picked up an early 92 25th anniversary camaro convertible, the car and body are in excellent shape but it of course needs some work. the question i have so i dont ramble on is, for the tonneau switch in the console, is it supposed to completely open the top like pop it open then let it swing up? or do i have to actually lift it up? also it appears that one side opens fine but the other side needs some help to open, could it need grease and if so what should i use, i can hear both sides working. also im completely missing the cable that releases the top, does anyone happen to have one that isn't too expensive?

Re: tonneau question
My tonnue release switch and rear bow release are on the drivers side of the tonnue itself. But the main thing your wondering about the tonnue poping open and swinging. Yes the springs on my tonnue will pop the tonnue completely open if I do not catch it and guide it up. I prefer to guide it just to make sure it doesn't swing too far and over extended thereby damaging something (kind of like bending your elbow too far). Not sure if it will hurt it letting it pop open, but as I said I prefer to catch and guide mine. I also don't slam mine shut like some, but rather lightly click one side and walk around to the other side and do the same.
As for the lubing, problem with greese is if it gets dirty it tends to solidify and makes things difficult. I would spray some wd-40 on the latch that is hanging. As it's penetrating oil and it's main ingrediant is fish oil, it should help break up the solidified greese, and lube it at the same time. I would also check the cable running from the solenoid to the release. Could be the cable is seaized and i'm not certain where you'll find another one.

Re: tonneau question
Mine doesn't go up all the way just a bit, about 6 ".
I had the keeper washer fall off of where the actuator cable goes to (hard to explain) ... one on each side. Anyway only one side would pop open, so fixed that.

Well you will have to find a used one. I believe a trunk pop switch the same. You are gonna have to buy it off a member or off someone local to you. Good luck in your search

Re: tonneau question
Make sure it's the switch thats broken and not a fuse or the like. I bought a new switch and it still doesn't work. If I send power direct to the actuators they fire, so it is a fuse/wiring issue on mine. I have seen a lot of people saying their switch is broke when it isn't the switch. just an fyi.

Re: tonneau question
My tonneau cover does not pop completely open just a couple of inches. The spring rods might be weak. I had to bypass the tonneau safety switch in the trunk so I prefer that it doesnt swing open to avoid accidently damaging the trunk if its open. Occasionally one side(passenger side) will stick and I have to hit the switch twice. Put a little grease on the latch should fix that. you can get the bow release cable handle from Hawks third gen.

Re: tonneau question
I ended up replacing my tonneau cover switch with a momentary switch from radio shack. I installed it through a piece of tin on the back side of the tonneau and cut a piece of textured plastic and put it through that on the exposed side. Works great looks are a b plus or so.

Re: tonneau question
I agree with spraying the latch with WD40. Then blow it out with compressed air and spray it with silicone spray. If this does not solve the problem you may need to put a thin shim under the passenger-side latch. T

Re: tonneau question
Look at the electrical connection part of the switch. A lot of those switches have the same connection and will work but it will have a different picture on the switch.
