Hardtop!!
today after church, I when to the airport to pick up my father in law, and he was a body worker for years, now retire!! we got home and he saw my car, and the rip on the top... he told me that years back, he made a few hardtops for cars using the convertible top as the mold, then cutting and removing the frame, leaving the front section for the locks, the side for the window seals, and the back bow for the center lock pin and seal!!! and cut out the window, he told me to find him a frame and he will show me how..
also he said it was not easy, cheep and a little heavy.. when he was young he work in a factory making dune buggy's body kit in puerto rico.. then he open his own shop!!
I think he knows he's stuff.. anyone interested!! maybe we can take him out of retirement!!

Re: Hardtop!!
I've always liked the silhouette of the verts more than the hatchbacks. That was the main reason I bought a vert. If I had all the time and money in the world I would like to do something more along the lines of the hard tops that you can get for a convertible miata. Follow the same lines of the factory vert frame more or less and build/fabricate/sculpt a top. Then make a mold from it and do a carbon fiber top. That's if I really knew how to do any of what I just typed. I'm subscribed just to see if this actually goes anywhere.

One good thing about starting from scratch you can do anything you want. I would like to see one like a C5 Vette has with the dip in the center

Re: Hardtop!!
you know what i think would be cool, if the top had a hinge in the center about where the end of the t-top would be in a t-top car, and the roof could fold under and latch. it would take an extra seal, but then it would be both like a t-top car (only without the bar) and a vert all in one
