Sound deadening in a 'vert?
The title sort of says it all. I am getting ready to install My new carpet (passenger and trunk) with the mass backing, in My 'vert.
Two part question:
A): What does everyone think of installing a sound deadener on the floor before laying the carpet? (I have a factory sound system, and old ears!)
B): What's everyone favorite sound deadening to use for verts?
Peace,

I don't see a lot of value in deadener in a vert. The vast majority of noise comes through the cloth top. I doubt you would notice a difference.

I think it was John Deere did a test where they used 1/2" steel plate and did a test for sound, then they drilled a 1/4" hole and did the same test, it was 20db louder or something amazing. To get it quieter, you would almost have to get a hard top... I would seriously like to make one of those for my vert...
Drive something else, anything else, I do not care if it is a Hundai, with a solid top... While driving down the highway, listen to the noise, just crack the window open a little bit and notice how much louder it is.
You should already have the top inner liner which should help quite a bit, but nothing is going to make it like a Buick or Cadillac.

I had a 86 t-top and didn't do the floors but on my 89 very I did the floors. Well worth it I used about 2.5 boxes of bulk dynamat extreme., then got new carpet with the extra padding. True much of the noise does come from the top but with it down you would be impressed by what it does with road noise

Waste of time & money and the extra weight provides no advantage in a 'vert. Top up and the fabric top will allow as much road noise as the floor; Top down and, well, you get the picture. I would just put in a quality carpet with a good backing and let the extra sound deadener go unless you want added temp deflection from the floor.

Re: Sound deadening in a 'vert?
Noise in a vert is a given with a cloth top. When I had my interior out a couple of years ago I was astonished that it looked brand new with zero rust anywhere so I went and got 3 cans of 3m rubberized undercoating and went over everything (especially the low spots). I also got around the rear wheel wells and hard to get to areas where water might set a while. I didn't add any dyno mat or anything but it couldnt hurt. I have subframe connectors on the brain since I cracked my windshield a while back while just cornering the car hard.
