ConvertiblesDiscussed here are problems and solutions to convertible specific questions, including difficult to find part numbers and other convertible tech help.
I have never seen that. I am assuming it may not be an ASC convertible.(which is all I am familiar with).Maybe some of the other conversion companies used it . In the pic I dont even see the third brake, unless it is hidden from the angle.
It is a plastic gasket filler piece.I grabbed one off a 91 rs vert that a friend was parting out as mine didn't have it.Im assuming it was used to seal out water from getting under the rear spoiler

That is what I thought at first, but it seems that there is a definite seam between the deck lid and spoiler. It could just be from the pic. Out of the 2 91-92 verts I have had, neither have had the gasket sticking out to that point. The gasket is there, but it is neatly tucked underneath the spoiler.
My 1988 and 1989 are both all factory original ASC convertibles and they have the same black weather bead as pictured above. My cars are both white so the black beading is easy to notice on them.
yes its a factory piece came with all verts. I took it off mine as I dislike the look but I seldom drive mine. It helps do deflect the water off to the sides as the verts have the trunk that acts like a giant water trap between the 2 rear side spoilers.

My 91 has it but it seems a tad dry and it does not extend to the ends of the spoiler so it seems water could get underneath? I would like to find another one or something similar to put in place of it.

ya thats how they are, they dont make it all the way to the ends.

I have one still on the black vert, Ill try to get it off and take a pic
My 92 T/A has this. It looks like a solid round bead with a flat section that slides under the spoiler lip. The flat section has a few angled slices cut in it for who knows why..

Re: What is this molding?
I wish I could find one for my 89 Formula... Previous owner had removed it, or could not figure out how to reinstall it when they apparently changed the high-mount brake light.

The 89s don't have this piece.
I'll try to get a pic an txt it to you of what it looks like.

It originally did extend all the way across the trunk lid, but the seal shrinks from UV exposure over time.
Check with a convertible top shop for a replacement. I got some in red vinyl free off a spool from a local top shop. I put it on and decided the red looked OK, so I diverted from my original plan to paint it with black vinyl paint. I don't know what GM or ASC called it, but P-seal is a common name for this type of seal.
The slices on the end are to help it make the slight angle turn. The hard vinyl would not easily turn otherwise without bulging the flat portion.
The one 92 vert I had was black (all original), so I probably didn't see it. The second red 91, was a hack job from the PO, and repainted. So it probably trimmed down for the paint job

Correct, on my 89, it was just under the 3rd Brake light housing. Same idea, it was a gap filler. I wanted to duplicate one, but I have no idea what it looks like. If I got an original, I should be able to duplicate it in Black Silicone...
