There was a black 1991 Z28 Vert for sale in Plymouth, MA for the past year or so.. 5-speed.. The ad is gone so I imagine it sold.. looked pretty nice..
There’s been a bunch of nice ones posted up in the history forum if you go back and look..
Looking at the numbers, I would venture to say that there are maybe only a few hundred IROC's/Z28's 5-speed verts at best left on the planet. From 1987-1992 there were around 13,000 verts produced. Say 10% of those were 5-speeds. That would only be 1300 made for all those years. Fast forward 27 years later and between wrecks, part outs, car crushers etc., I doubt even half that number are left.
I find that most of the 87s I see were 5-speed. Many without TPI though.
I’ve only seen a couple 88-90 IROC Verts for sale with a 5-speed.
I’ve seen a bunch of 5-speed 91-92 Z28 verts for sale.
88-90 seems the most scarce for 5-speed Verts for whatever reason. At least what comes up for sale.
Totally agree. Same thing goes for parts, I have been looking for a slide release on the tonneau cover and the connecting rods and clips for quite awhile. Same for the tonneau release solenoids.

I bought the Hawks 89-92 upgrade kit for the Tonneau release but never used it.. I’d sell it for $90 off their price I paid..
You might want to try a member on here (my82roc) who sold me a used Tonneau release slider that too all of 5 min to replace my cracked one that was useless. I believe he has a lot of convertible parts..
I contacted him back when you got your tonneau slider from him. He had a broken one left, that was broken on the other side of the one I have to see if I could maybe cut and combine the two of them into one good one. Haven't gotten around to trying that yet.
How do those Hawks kits work--do you remove all original rods and latches and bolt in the Hawks kit?
This member beths91camaro also had some Vert parts I believe..
I think the upgrade kit uses a cable instead of the rod assembly, but I’d have to talk to Hawk’s since I never tried to install it myself.
It would be nice if someone made a video or if there were instructions on how to upgrade the release..
This is what the kit looks like:
I was definitely going to figure it out if I didn’t find that part.. My trim piece was broken so the slider was just dangling loose. I had to pull the back seat down and manually release the pin..
It looked like the original owner had glued it back together.. I tried that and it broke again.. pretty flimsy part and if you find a new slider, be gentle with it.. very poor design!

Don't forget the handful or so convertibles that were imported into Australia and other countries. Most of them that I've personally seen in Queensland are right hand drive and high on equipment levels,TPI automatics, but there are definitely a few manuals. I remember looking at a few (must be 20+ years ago now!!) before I bought my 89 5 speed TPI convertible irocz, with equipment level 3.. I've put about 30,000km on the clock in 20 years since I've owned mine.

must be time to export it back to its homeland!
an 89 IROC Vert with a 5-speed with low miles would certainly be sought after here.
There’s a guy who has a right hand drive second gen Trans Am who goes to shows and cruise nights around here and always draws a crowd of people taking pictures of the steering wheel on the opposite side.. ha ha

These export cars, are they figured into the total production numbers? All the numbers breakdowns that you guys do I never see these in their own category It would be interesting to know what percentage went overseas.
I have not seen a right hand drive 3rd gen in person. I might be one of those taking "tourist" photos too!.

I would think the cars imported into Australia are included in the total production numbers. These weren't designated as export cars. These cars were just purchased US models, imported into Australia by various companies, converted to right hand drive and sold.

All of the RHD Australian 1989 GTAs and other Firebirds that I have record of, were originally sold to US dealers.
Of course that doesn't stop you from getting exactly what you want and converting your convertible to a T5 or T56. I did the swap to a WC-T5 many years ago and love the change! Unless of course I'm stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic behind a truck with pigs headed to Farmer John's meat processing plant or a tar kettle!

All you have to do is stay back from the traffic and let the car roll in 1st
I don’t get bothered by traffic in a stick... It’s just as annoying driving an Auto and having to keep hitting your brakes
I like to stay back and let the cars roll even though people behind me get annoyed.. People need to chill and just coast... save your damn brakes... Look on your GPS app and see where the traffic ends and you can get right in front of all those cars!
In the city where it’s all traffic lights, that just sucks for any transmission, brakes, cooling system, etc...
i daily drive stick too and you are right on the money with the "run in 1st or 2nd and let the idiots behind do their thing"
not too many people get by me and in front with 1st in a t5/5.0 and a passive aggressive driver, lol.
