I just picked up my first TA. It is a 92, 305, automatic. Not in terrible shape, but no show car. The top needs replaced, and its got some terrible decals on the sides. Interior isn't terrible, but needs a new steering wheel, sunvisors, and the dash is cracked. Has been upgraded with a GTA rear end, so it has posi, and rear disc brakes. Anyways, I am looking forward to getting this car put together the way I want. Glad I found this forum.
I did get the decals off, thank God. Already looks way better, in my opinion.
Are there any immediate upgrades I need to look into? Thanks for any input.
Pretty sure the pace car decals are repros from 1982. Looks like aside from the 4th gen seats it's not too bad.
PS does that grease marker note say Do Not F&ck? Do Not Fork would be my guess, but it was funnier when I had to squint to make out the middle letters.
Yeah, I know it's not a GTA. Previous owner added those badges, along with those awesome decals...HA The seats are from a 4th gen, but they aren't too terrible, and the power driver seat still works. I'm experiencing a lot of the normal fun issues, headlights need help to go up, windows roll up and down very slowly, blown rear speakers, etc, etc....
And yes it said "do not fork"....hahaha
I'd fork that thing in a heart beat. Nice car and welcome! The nice thing about that interior is that it looks like it was originally grey cloth, and grey cloth T/A seats seem to be a dime a dozen so it should be an easy replacement!
Be careful with those tail light lenses. Only used 91 & 92 and are pretty pricey to replace if you can find a good set. Nice project. Keep the questions coming!
You said you need a new steering wheel. I can't tell from the pic, but I assume the leather wrap is probably worn out at the top of the wheel?.... That was the case with the 91 Trans Am I just restored, and I ended up just removing the leather wrap, and using an adhesive remover to remove all of the glue. The wheel cleaned up great and actually looks really nice.
