Plastic over paint where top rests
There is a clear plastic overlay over the paint on the tonneau cover on which the raised too sits.I assume that it is there to protect the paint. It is very scratched and looks terrible when the top is down. Was this installed by the factory. How can I improve how it looks? I have an 88 Camaro.

I used a friend who does vinyl and he made one for me. I figure if you find a factory one you have to worry about how it has enough strength to stay on being the age of the material. I would try a vinyl company and make sure it is the best that they have.

Hawks has a reproduction of this now...

I had the paint on my convertible restored and they put a paint film on the rear deck to protect the paint...
the top made a blister in the film so I might get it removed and get this reproduction instead.
You definitely need something to protect the paint from how the canvas sits right on the paint...

The biggest issue I see is that trying to remove the OLD PPF could possibly lift some paint if it sticks. Its been known to happen even on new cars where it was applied. Probably best to let a quality shop do the removal.
