I'm looking for a video or article with pictures on how to replace 82-92 camaro convertible weatherstripping.

Not having much luck in searching so far...

I have an 89 RS Convertible and I want to replace all the weatherstripping, there appears to be some tip or trick to it for convertibles in order for the top to not leak afterwords.

I paid a upholstry shop to replace the top & weatherstripping and they did a good job on the top but **** on the weatherstripping, I really want to redo it right myself.

I, as well am about to take this on for my 92 T/A vert. Can you link anything you've found already here? You had mentioned somewhere it said there was a trick to it. I would like to know specifically what that was. Anything you found would be awesome, and I'll do the same!

I fid mine to test fit on the rear bow and windows. Line it up so its even on both sides, then slide in one side of the groove, the other i used a plastic trim tool or flathead. Little by little it feeds itself in. Takes a few minutes. Thats to test fit. Once you see its official, then i suggest cleaning the frame with a flap disc and mineral spirits( takes the dust off)
then using weatherstrip glue, and redo the process

Btw, im Selling a few of the weatherstrips. Car is gone, and i cant do anything with them. If interestes hit me up, ill give you the best price. Just want it gone. METRO WEATHERSTRIPS

 

my remaining challenge is getting the side rails that go between the top and the door glass to line up, butt up against the weatherstripping that goes over the top of the windshield that the top sets into.
that dog won't hunt.

 

Did you change the one over the windshield? Keep in mind, that the seal shrinks over a long period of time. So if you still have the original, or and old seal on the front, it might not touch.

man i'm hating this 3rd gen camaro convertible top weatherstripping...
**** will not butt up or line up for nothing, 3rd set of seals, 3rd different manufacturer idk wtf the deal is and why nothing lines up. Top's dirty but new, seals are new have not glued anything yet cause nothing lines up in the front. Car is always garaged or covered. Driver side top roof rail looks like it's cut at wrong angle and too short.
Idk wtf kind of voodo ASC did when they made, installed these tops for gm back in the day but i can't find seals that fit right.

Mine was the same way. I actually had better luck swapping them L to R. Surprisingly they don't leak! I have'nt siliconed any of them on either, the whole set!

 

as i currently understand it there are At least 3 different style top frames for third gens:
87-88 (slider Tonneau release 87-88 front bow and window)
89 (handle Tonneau release 89 front bow and window)
90-92 (handle Tonneau release 90-92 front bow and window)

I have seen no pictures of the differences between these 3 thus far...

I suspect there's signifigant differences that impact the weatherstripping fitment , alignment in at least the way i am experiencing; leading me to currently believe the 87-92 third gen weatherstripping is NOT universal.

I am wondering if anybody with a 3rd gen vert that's done the weatherstripping has noticed IF the metal weatherstripping channels over the door windows were parrallel to the ground or at a angle? It appears to me IF my door window channels for the weatherstripping were parallel to the ground that all the cuts and molding for the weatherstripping would be perfect.

IF that's the case i either need different weatherstripping which does not appear to be available; or something different part wise for the weatherstripping channels and or other vert top frame parts that go over the door windows.

This is one of my last hold ups on finishing this car; I keep putting on the back burner in frustration of this damm weatherstripping fitment issue.

I believe mine are at an angle, at least that's how i remember then being.

 

Seems like there has to be some kind of adjustment for the side rails where the weatherstripping channel goes over the door windows or a different side rail.

I have not seen any side rail or frame diagrams or pictures that would infer theres any adjustment there and with the top installed I can't make that determination either.

 

There are 3 or 2 small 7mm screws that hold the rail to the frame. You have to lift the top right above that weather stripping to see them. If you loosen them you can adjust the rail in/out, but thats about it.

 

The best seals to have are the GM parts. Those will fit the best.
aftermarket is sketchy at best
