water pump going bad?
water pump going bad?
Hey everyone,
was out all day long yesterday driving in about 85 degree heat and it never got up over 220. Well, I woke up this morning and there is a antifreeze all over the ground. It looked like my lower radiator hose had a hole init, so I replaced it , fill everything back up ,, start the car and it still leaks.
Could the water pump be going bad and leaking somewhere? Anything will be very helpful. thanks
Its an 88 Iroc with the 5.7 350

no I couldn't see where it was coming from. The antifreeze was leaking down the back of the lower radiator hose. I followed it up to the water pump and thought that the hose came loose and when I took the hose off it did have a little tear in it. so I replaced it, and then got the car going again and it still leaked.
thats why I am thinking that the water pump could be going bad.

Well, on the bottom of the water pump housing there is a weep hole drilled between the front and back bearings that hold the impeller shaft. If the seal goes bad coolent will leak out of this weep hole and believe me that hole is hard to see. Good Luck!
