Is it worth it to take out my AC in my iroc? I am in the process of doing my motor swap and i am prepping it for paint. Now, should i take it out or leave it? Is it really worth it to take it out, i mean, i do not need it! Do i just need a 1le ac delete pulley? thanks for any info.

 

If you have a 86, then i believe you have the multiple V-belts. So your a/c would on the drivers side of the engine, and all you would do is take it off.

I took mine out and love the room i get under the hood now and it runs a little cooler. The stock A/C heater box will have to stay in so you can still run your climate controls. The non-A/C heater boxes are hard to find anymore.

 

Thanks, yeah the ac unit is on the right of the motor. Would i need different pullies, like an ac delete pulley or something? I believe they are mainly out of 1le cars, not too sure though.

If it were me, I would leave it in there. I guess I am just iffy about people chopping things off thier car. Also, it is pretty nice to have. Last gathering for us, as everyone else was sweating the whole way down, (about an hour?) I was cool as a cucumber. Good thing though, as I was the only one dumb enough to wear jeans! For your car you would just remove the lines and compressor, that's it as you use a V belt system and the a/c compressor has it's own belt.

 

Thanks Erik! Well, i got the motor out saturday, now it's time to clean and paint the bay. That should take a while with school and work. I don't know, maybe i'll come down on the 21st and check it out! I will let you know. Later

 

Speaking of taking out the AC will the heater still work when you take out the AC?

 

Yes, but you will have to do a little fab work most likely.

 

No A/C.......that is almost a death wish were i live....

The heater on the other hand is not necessary....

I took out my AC a year and a half ago. Last summer wasnt bad it was beautiful almost everyday and wasnt too hot. This year was unbearable and i regretted gutting that stuff out. My 91 has wonderfully workin AC but its only a nice day car. This winter ill be putting th ac back in so my lil sis has it when she buys it off of me.

My brother took the ac out of his 82. Fortunately on the +100 days he has the luxury of usin my dads 94 caprice. (you can hang meat in that car with the ac on). If he left his in i could have fixed iy and he could freeze in there.

On the plus side, i love the extra room i had, but, the headers are in now, and plugs are easy, so to each there own, stay cool guys.

My 85 T/A that I bought a couple of months ago had the A/C stuff removed. Although I do like the room under the hood, I would like to put it back. If you guys are removing the stuff, I will take it off of your hands.

Nobody mentioned collector value. With the demise of the camaro you might want to consider leaving it stock, may be worth more that way.

 

the best way to rid yourself of the a/c system is to get an a/c delete box. Only has heater hoses running to it.

I'm not much for hack jobs, and modifying a stock a/c box sounds like one, unless you put a lot of work into it.

 

I don't have A/c but it is on my to do list.I had A/C before i sold the car back to my brother in law,Now i got it back and surprise!A/C gone So i'm gonna take out the A/C Delete box and put my air back in....real soon....Black car+ Black interior + florida heat =HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!

If you have leather seats i would HIGHLY suggest keeping the AC in the car....

 

I was able to find a non AC heater box from Davit T's in Canada. It was only 25.00 Cdn or about 15.00 US. He has a site.

i plan on coming what my car came with on... i am not touching anything... i had my a/c recharged with r12 but it leaked out so i need to find the leak before i charge it again with somemore r12..

but the next thirdgen i get i am stripping the **** out of it, no a/c, no emissions...

Heres what your supposed to do:

 

Did He!! freze over? Thats the only reson you should take the AC out. Removing the AC reduces the value of the car and if you say you plan on keeping the car for a long time just remember we all do things now that we wish we haddent later.
If you do decide to remove it just plug the lines and keep everything in a box for future reinstallation.
