new motor gettin TOO HOT

I did a motor swap and when i had my 305 in, it began to overheat and i got a new radiator and it fixed the problem. I put a 350 in and now that gets too hot. I have a 160 thermostat and the new radiator. It stays around 160 for about 20 mins then gets to 220, then keeps climbing if it climbs large hills on the highway. Could it be backpressure cause my y-pipe under my car now is pretty flattened out from hittin the ground. Or do i need a better radiator or something? Thanks.

How are your fans, put additional fans on your radiator. Could also be your gage or your temp. sender going bad. Mine gage went out and would constantly rise until I hit the sh!@ out of the dash- then it would go to normal.

It could also be your timing, or it could be your engine running lean. Both of those cause the engine to run warmer.

my sensor is new cause i needed a new one to fit the block. Im pretty sure the gauge works right cause if its cooler out like at night it doesnt get very hot. My fan is mechanical and my shroud is fully intact. I dont think im runnin lean cause i smoke a lot if i punch it on the highway which would mean im runnin rich if anything right?

Get a 185 degree thermostat, 200 degree hypertech fan switch, and dual fans from a iroc/tpi car. I tried the 160 degree thermostat and my car ran super hot. The thermostat opens too cool and lets the coolant flow through to fast and it doesn't set in the radiator long enough to cool. Also make sure your air-dam is in place. My 350 has yet to get over 200 with the a/c on. In 92 degree weather.

Just try a manual fan switch.

I couldn't solve my electrical overheating problems, so I just wired them suckers to a switch, and she's yet to see over 200 degre's.

Very high exhuast backpressure will cause an engine to run hotter than usual.

All good points...but don't forget that NEW / REBUILT Engines WILL Run a bit hotter than normal while being broke in alot of times....there's a bit more internal friction going on while the new parts "get used" to each other, and this causes heat.
