cooling fan wont turn on.

Hi guys i have a 91 3.1 and im having problems with the cooling fan. Ok here goes i turn on the car and i think the fan should kick on at about 180 or so and it never turns on it just heats up. so i thought it could be the coolant sensor because when i unplugged that the cooling fan ran all the time and when i plugged it back in the fan would not kick on so i replaced the coolant sensor and tried again but the fan still did not kick on. so if anybody has similiar problems or could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Matt

It's probably the motor man, run in straight off the battery and see how well it runs...It's probably gone bad and drawing alota juice and heating up.

Matt, it may not be getting hot enough for the fan to run. Obviously if it ran when the CTS was unplugged the motor is OK. Not sure about the 3.1's, I know the V8 engines turn on the primary at 220 degrees. A quick check for the fan relay and fan is to simply turn on the A/C, the fan should come on. If the A/C is not working jump the ALDL connector like you do to retrieve engine codes. The ECM will turn on the fan as a self test while it runs the SES codes.
