Coolant flush question

I want to change my coolant asap and I have a quick question,

What exactly is involved with flushing your radiator?
I have never done this before and I believe its a simple job, but i just wanted to make sure before I get started.

Please let me know asap.

Thanks:hail:

Prestone makes a kit that has some fittings you spice into your hose. You hook a garden hose onto it for flushing.

ALOT drains out, make sure you put Down PLENTY and i mean PLENTY of newspaper... it gets messy.. when i did mine i wanted to use more water, to make it run cooler... so i just put in one gallon of antifreeze and dowzed the rest with water. Temp never sees close to 220

Flushing the cooling system can be done by you, but is pretty useless in my opinion. The only real effective way to flush the cooling system is with a backflusher. These force the coolant out in the exact oposite way from which the coolant usualy flows through the engine naturally. What this does is agitate the rust, scale, and debris inside your engine, and forces it out instead of flowing right over it. It creates much more resistance in the system, and is the only true flushing method.

just did this to the IROC. I got the radiator cleaner and the backflush kit from prestone. worked pretty good. my engine heats up really fast now though. any thoughts on why? to much anti-freeze and not enough water?
