Bad Math?

I was driving back to fredonia from buffalo the other day..and i was checking my gauges as i always do when im driving..except i noticed something odd. The temp gauge goes from 100 up to 260. 220 is at the midpoint. If you do the math, half way from 100 to 260 is 180, not 220. So my question is, is it really reading 180? or did the gm people make the computer compensate for the way the numbers are on the gauge.

It's non-linear. The computer has nothing to do with the gauges.

non-linear and non-accurate quite often. To add to the fun: The fuel guage is linear, but the fuel guage needle movement is non-linear
