NEEd help: my engine get really hot OK I GOT NEWS FOR THOSE WHO ANSWERED ME

hi

I CHECKED WHAT A FEW OF YOU HAD SUGGESTED AND WHEN THE CAR IS ON AND THE ENGINE IS HOT THE FAN DO NOT RUN
HOW CAN I MAKE IT RUN, HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THAT SHOULD COST THANK FOR YOUR HELP AGAIN

HERE IS MY ORIGINAL POST :
i just got a 92 camaro tbiv8 with 90000 and i have a problem with the temperature of the car

when i in heavy traffic or stopped for a long time the engine get really hot to the point that the water coolant starts to boil
When i m on the highway no problem
everything is stock on it exept the 180 thermostat that i got which help a little bit
tycally do you guys think that it has to do with the radiator, the fan , the water pump or something else
what should i look for at first ?

thank for your help

Cedric

1st i would check to see if ur fans comin on, if no then i would find out why they arent, if they do i would check ur radiator and water pump, if all good, then its prolly a head gasket, check ur coolant level, and notice if there is a white puff of smoke blowin out the tailpipes, kinda hard to tell in the winter time tho

It doesn't really sound like a head gasket to me. My last car, a 1990 Rover Sterling, had warped/leaking head gaskets and it was fine in stop & go traffic, but on the highway was when I saw overheating problems.

I would say check your fans, make sure they're coming on, make sure you have a good 50/50 mixture and that your coolant hoses aren't blocked.

How hot does it get when you're just driving? I had that problem recently where my car never got above about 180deg driving....but in town would start to finally heat up. First I thought it was the fans not coming on, but turned out to be a stuck t-stat. Might check that, and also see if there's any air bubbles in your cooling system.
