Cooling my oil?
Cooling my oil?
I have a L98 stuffed into a RS. So, I dont have a oil cooler. I was looking at the dual circuit cooler from Permacool out of summitracing. I need to get a transmissoin cooler anyways, and I dont have a oil cooler and should get one.
So....here is my question. I know the factory system has coolant lines that run through the adaptor and it cools the oil that way. But this unit looks like it wants the oil to directly pass through it. I am kinda worried about it losing oil pressure and such.

It's not going to drop the oil pressure, it's just a different method to cool the oil. The stock setup is referred to as a water to water cooler, the aftermarket one operates like a radiator, and is a air to water cooler. I personally haven't used them, but I haven't heard anything bad about them.
You do know that the bottom couple rows in the radiator operate as a trans cooler, right?

if the oil cooler you get drops your temperature from xxx degrees to xxx degrees, then its not a waste of money.
waste of money is relative, whoever said it would be might be thinking in terms of your setup and that its not a "built to the hilt mad hp pushing monster". in that respect...its possibly considered a waste, but then i refer you to the above, hence
they're an idiot.

Just wondering why you keep referring to your motor as an L98 when it's not? Anyways, an oil cooler really depends on the setup. If you are primarily street driven or drag racing it will be a waste. It'll just be more weight and clutter. If you plan on doing some long term high rpm driving or something like road racing or auto x then it would be worthwhile and help protect your engine under those types of stresses, otherwise don't waste your money.
