HVAC control vacuum source?

Not sure if this should go here...

Well In the swap to a stealth ram so long ago I ripped out a bunch of small vacuum lines in and around the engine bay thinking it'd be easy to replace them and that they were all for MAP, EGR and that kind of crap. Well I realized that at least one was for a source for the HVAC controls on the interior. I've got one small tube doing nothing in my engine bay and was wondering if any of you can snap a picture or draw up alittle diagram or hell, toss some sticks my way to show me where to run this tube so I can switch it off of just the defroster vents....

The tube for the A\C stuff should run to an oblong platic box near the top of the firewall near the wiper motor and the master cylinder.

Not on a '91. By then, GM had relocated the vacuum reservoir to underneath the driver's side battery tray/air filter/charcoal cannister area (exactly which one of those three is correct depends on the year and model). The newer style of vacuum reservoir looks like a 6" diameter plastic ball.

Re: HVAC control vacuum source?

so how do you tell where the problem with your line is, meaning, how do you find the vaccuum leak on a tube that long. Please help, my controls are all screwed up!!!!
Sorry to revive an old post, but it's relevant

Re: HVAC control vacuum source?

they move from spot to spot but are not accurate, and if not in the *max* position, smoke starts to come out and a real raunchy smell, and when the selector is in the *off* position, the fan will still blow if you turn the **** to any of the 4 speeds and when you put the heat on the floor, it blows out defrost vents, WTF man? HELP!!!!

Re: HVAC control vacuum source?

Sounds like at the very least the fan switch/connector is toast. If it were my car I'd yank the control head out and inspect the vacuum lines at the head itself to make sure it's all in good condition right there. Maybe a botched stereo install at some point?

Re: HVAC control vacuum source?

I'm going to replace the whole control panel, then inspect/repair any vac. leaks. Stereo is the stocker believe it or not, never been out Thanks
