Something has been cut off!

I just bought my first F-Body about a month ago. (1984 Firebird SE) And I've been noticing some things about it. I am not an engine guy, and I see some things have been cut off of my car.

this has been cut right off, looks like with a hacksaw. Where does it go? Some cars it looks like it goes right back into itself? What is that piece? What does it do?

This comes from the radiator and looks like it's been cut off and pinched closed. Does the other part connect to this? Is it all part of the same circuit?

I have a lot of work ahead of me. But I think this will be fun. Can't wait 'til it's done.

Wait - they're never really done, are they?

the car -

It looks like the AC and the electrical have been hacked to hell. Plus there is lots of bad rust. I wouldn't put too much into that car.

It's the refrigerant line from your dryer (at the firewall) to the coils in front of the radiator. Your a/c compressor was probably mounted above the ps pump on the drivers side. You can remove the coils and lines if you want-I wouldn't recommend trying to use them again if you ever want to reinstall a/c. Do a search for a/c delete. Rust doesn't look too bad.

Congrats on the new ride. Spend some time on here getting to know what's what under the hood, then start to work.

The top pic is part of the AC system, the bottom may be also. You say comes from radiator, are you sure? The AC condenser is in front of the radiator, kinda looks like radiator too. So could also be part of AC system.

They connect to eachother. Your a/c does not work because of this. Like you said, it IS all part of the same "circiut".

Ok, up here it's been to cold to use the A/C for cooling, but the heat in the car works fine. So that would make sense then. Thanks a lot! I planned on the work, and this place is definitely great. I've been using the search feature and answering almost all of my questions. I also signed up for that 3rdGen.org, and there isn't much of anything on that site. Not to mention their members are like the guy who replied first.

You know, being brand new at all of this, I have no idea. I never got into cars until I had one, and that hasn't been too long.

I'm going to have to go with The General and say yes. A sticker under the hood for emissions hose routing shows an item labled "carb".

Fuel pump should have been a pretty solid indicator. Reason I asked is there are some excellent tech articles on the montecarloss site on computer controlled carburetors. They haven't answered all of my questions (still looking for a soo) but they're pretty good for a beginner.
