Cooling system flush
The previous owner of my T/A spliced one of those Prestone flush kit into the heater hoses. How exactly does that work? I was reading the instructions on the back on the package at the store the other day, and I wasn't too clear on it. Does anyone have any experience with these?
It looks like you hook a hose up to the junction in the heater hose line but it also looks like you hook something else up to the radiator cap opening. So does the old coolant come out the hose hooked up to the heater hose and you fill with water at the radiator cap opening?
Anybody done this before?

You hook the garden hose up to the heater hose tee, and the kit comes with a spout which fits in the opening of the radiator cap, when the hose is turned on it forces the water out of the spout where the radiator cap goes. It seems to work pretty well, I usually drain the system afterwards (when the water comes out clear) and fill it up with distilled water. There seems to be a ton of minerals in the water around here.

They do work-too well! The chemicals are fairly vile, and will
probabably erode your plastic/aluminum radiator seams, and
getting the chemicals competely out of your heater core is difficult
without high pressure, which in itself causes leaks. You're better
off changing your coolant more often and remember to only use
distilled water, which most people do not. I would use either a
good water pump lube or Purple Ice/Water Wetter. Just my .02-
I see this all the time in my job.

I'll flush out all of the anti-freeze with the garden hose. After I run it with all water for a few minutes, I'll dump the water and refill with anti-freeze and distilled water and some water wetter.

I installed the prestone kit in the heater hose today. If your car has it installed already did he leave you the parts? When you take the cap off it has a one way valve that attaches to the hose and than connects to the tee. I don't see how you will attach the hose without it. But they are less than $4 for another kit to get the parts. The spout that goes on the radiator opening doesn't have a hose attachment and I didn't want coolant all over my car so I taped a piece of 3/4 heater hose to the spout that was long enough to reach the ground.

I just stumbled across this old thread as I was searching for flush hints. I have never thoroughly flushed my GTA. I may get one of those kits for my car. My piece of advice though is to replace the T-fitting with a piece of pipe once you are finished. I put one of those kits on another car years ago, and the T-fitting developed a crack within two years.
