Help tgo guys. Leaking water pump Help please

I have an 85 trans am with a 305 , tpi, 1 electric fan , ac and auto tranny and also v belts. The water pump is leaking from the back . i can see it but cant reach it very easy .First off is it possible to tighten them up and not tak anythign off the car. I looked on my bros 88 firebird with 305 tbi and you can see the water pump and everything with no probs. but thiers like thermostat hose and a few other things so you cant see it from the top . So is it possible to tighttwn them up for one. and number two , if i cant do that , what do i have to take off to get the water pump off. The gm service manual blows, its like 8 steps, remove lines, removal of coolant , and then accs in the way and thats basically it . SO does anyone have any better instructions for it . And if you need i can get pics if that would help. but i really need some hlep with this , im gonna do this tomorrow so i need to know what im in for and i thought my tgo friends could give me some pointers. thanks guys , jeff.

Your water pump gaskets are out, heres what to do.

ok, i'm looking at my Haynes manual, its saying:

take off the upper fan shroud if it has one

take off all your drive belts, mark them with somthing so you don't get them mixed up

it says you may have to remove some accesories, probly your Alt, PS, and maybe A/C and AIR pump.

then you should be able to get to the pump fairly easily, take it off with the 4 bolts, and clean all the surfaces on the block and the back of your water pump. throw some new gaskets on and put everything back like it was and you should be good, LMK if you run into any problems.

Hi,

Please be forewarn. Do not buy a water pump from ether Advance Auto or AutoZone. There water pumps will last for about 35,000 miles give or take a few. Go to the dealer and buy an OEM part. The OEM will last and last. I now have over 70,000 miles on my current OEM water pump. The orginal water pump that came on the LG4 went more them 100,000 miles. I went though three Advance Auto water pumps until I got tired of replacing them. One of the Advance pumps last less them 30,000 miles.

well thanks for the warning but its too late , but 30k is ok by me . I dont think ill put 30k more on the car, it will prolly take 10 years to do that , but i dont plan to have this engine for more than 3 years . And btw the original just went out at 59245 miles. so explain that .
