Fluid flows from the bottom port on the transmission to the bottom port on the rad, and from the top port on the rad to the top port on the transmission.

Yup.

I installed my external cooler on the out line though. My mechanics teacher told me to, because it would be on the ...low pressure line?

I'm thinking I should switch it pretty soon.

My Automobile Technician teacher told us to route the incoming fluid to the cooler on the front of the radiator and then to the internal radiator cooler (heater now) then back to the trans. Its so that you don't over cool the radiator fluid.

A lot of people have different ideas how it should be done, but there almost doesn't really seem to be a wrong way to do it.

ok, got it all hooked up and routed properly, but i have a minor problem... the trans fluid out (top) i have going into the hard line that goes straight into the trans, but even tightened all the way, fluid leaks out pretty easily.. not a slow dribble... its leaking by the hose, not the threads so its not stripped or anything. BTW its a new aluminum radiator if that has anything to do with it...

The hard lines are only good for so many retightenings before they need to be reflared it seems. I got tired of fighting leaks so I just replaced the lines with steel braided hose.

how much did that hose cost you to replace the hardlines with. i have been thinking about that (getting tired of using the tube bender to bend the lines all over to match the factory bends...

There's about 6 feet of hose ($30), 4 hose ends ($6) and 4 adapters ($7), so around $82.

ah ok.. considering the hardline fustrations.. might be nice to spend the little bit more.. Although I would have 4 pcs of hose.. 2 coming off the transmission. than two coupled to that and into each side of the cooler.. Mostly for ease of installing and removing the transmission so that you can put the line on before installation and then just connect the rest of the line afterwards without the pain that doing otherwise can cause.

You don't need 4 pieces, just 3. Leave some slack in the hoses so that you can connect them while the transmission is lowered

Were you expecting that adding a transmission cooler was going to make a noticeable difference in engine temperature?

How would only 6ft of hose go from the transmission to the radiator and back again? Right now i have a 52" line and a 63" line in order to make it from the tranny to the radiator.. so only 72" would be a bit short, unless you just have it running into your cooler and not the radiator portion.

I'll post a disclaimer: Measure what you need instead of ordering based on my eyeballed measurements.

72" either way should be more than plenty (especially for the lower one)
