Car Overheating--Radiator Questions

Hello I have one of the lucky 92 RS overheating issues.
I need to replace my radiator because it is leaking but I wanted to know what the best cheap direct from an auto parts store radiator is.

I do not know much about the radiators so any help on finding a good one would be greatly appreciated

Just goto your local napa or carquest. They are usually in the 100-150 range. That is your best bet. While that radiator is out, you might as well replace your hoses and flush all of the coolant using a flushing t.

Thanks for the advice,
I am also wondering if a conversion to dual fans is a good idea?

Dual fans will help out alot, also make sure the air dam is installed under the car and I would replace the W/P while your in there and thermostat.

I use a 195. Basically, the lower the number, the cooler your engine runs. But you don't want to let your engine run to cool. I vote for a 195.

Not necessarily. They are smaller fans, and if your car isn't excessively modded then the stock fan should be doing its job. Waterpump is also nice to replace but probably not necessary either.

Check air damn, get a 180 thermostat, pop in new radiator, get upper and lower hoses and call it a day.

i believe the stock thermo is set at 195. and there's no need to replace the fan. these cars are notorious for bad airflow for cooling, so make sure your fan motor is in good shape. it doesn't take long at all for your car to overheat once the fan quits working. but the stock fan should be plenty- until you mod it. then you might have clearance issues depending on what mods you do.

I would check the fan relays on the fire wall next to the brake booster. Or you can always hard wire the fan to a switch.

i had the same problem on my 91 RS. that's why i said to check the fan. I hardwired mine to a safety switch. Check the motor first though, if it's dead just replace it. But if you do hardwire it, cos say the switch went out like mine, make sure you use some decent gauge wire. I ran 16g straight fro the battery to the switch and from the switch to the fan motor. If you use too small a gauge (thickness) wire, it'll get too hot and burn out, which depending on how you run the wire could cause more problems and/ or fire. I used a 12v safety switch, the ones ppl usually hook up for nos and some starting applications. I haven't had any problems since then, and it'll only cost you about 15-20 bucks. And if I were you I'd buy some connectors. At least get connectors to plug into the back of the switch, and for any splicing you do.
