Fan switch missing!

I bought an 86 Iroc with the single fan. The fan was wired directly to the fuse box. So I got checking around and replaced the wires going to the relay, and replaced the relay. The fan didnt come on automatically. So I got checking around and I found that there was no fan switch or wires between 6&8 cylinders. Is there a different location that they put these? All I can find is the A/C switch wires. Which leads me to my question.

Can I wire in my new fan switch inline with the A/C switch?

Thanks

Hi, If I remember correctly the fan switch is in the intake manifold. Its a 1 wire with a black squeeze type connector. The switch in the head is for your temp gauge.

Fan switch is the passenger side cylinder head.
CTS for the ECM is in the intake/water neck.
Temp sensor is in the driver side head.

switch

well since he states its not there, perhaps it was moved? Or broken off??
My 84 has it in the t stat housing , my old 85 Iroc had it in the t stat housing? But my dual fan 89 had it in the pass head.
Digger, can you post pictures of your engine so we can help you find it? Hope its still pretty close to stock. A close up of right side, left side and frontal shot.
Sometimes its hard to see between the plug wires, especially if you have AC.

Does the fan switch go right to the relay or does it go through the computer first. Because my green and white wire was not spliced at all from the computer to the relay.

As for the switch being broken off, there is just a square 3/8 pipe plug in there. And the part that troubles me is that I took the wiring harness apart and I could not find the blue wire at all. Anyway Ill try to take some pics for you guys from the front, to , bottom, where ever.

yes pictures should help. also do you hav AC? Is there an engine driven fan and this is an auxillary type?
Fan is hard wired to relay meaning it doesn't run through the PCM. vin you can send pictures to my email....

Check the following link for the pass side switch (this one won't look like yours, but you'll see the correct location):

My '86 doesn't have a fan switch, there is a plug in the pass head where the switch should be, the fan is controlled by the ecm, although the factory setting is a little high, imo.
I also bought a set of used '86 heads from a member here that also had the plug in one of them. I guessing that it is not uncommon for the 86's to not have a fan switch.

I installed a fan switch in the dvr side head where the gage sender should be, and moved the gage sender to the water neck. The only thing is, now the gage won't read 'till the t'stat opens!
