Well I finally figured out what is wrong with my fans on my 87 IROC. They are old and worn out. They work when then get ready and not when they suppose to. I purchase a new motor for the fan, however I can not get the nut off the front of the fan because it keeps turning. Do anybody have any idea how to get that nut off so I can replace the fan motor? Thanks for any input or replys.

 

So nobody has an idea how I can remove that nut from the front of the fan to replace the motor? Come on somebody please help me out. I can't drive my car and I really do miss doing that.

 

I think that they are reverse threaded.

I realize that they are reverse threaded but how do I go about getting that nut off. It keeps turning and I have not way to keep it from spining while I try to take the nut loose. Any help will be appreicated.

 

If all else fails, you could always cut the nut off! Sorry, couldnt resist.

How have you tried to stabilize the fan motor from turning? It'll freely turn in both directions?

The fan blade should be notched (square shape) and slides onto the fan motor so they spin as one piece. Then the bolt keeps it all tight. Atleast thats how my motor is.

 

But how do you stop the nut from spinning so I can loosen the get the bolt off?

 

If there is any room on the motor shaft, use a small vice-grip to hold the shaft and then loosen the nut.

 

By holding the fan blades.

 

Even when I hold the fan blades the nut still keeps spinning. I swear I never had anything so tuff to try to take off. It's a pain in the rear. But I know that you guys will come thru with some help. Thanks

 

That's how it's done. If the shaft still rotates while holding the fan blades then you'll need to stabilize the fan motor shaft by some innovative method. If the old fan motor is bad and you have the replacement waiting, what's to loose?

Are you sure it`s a nut you`re having trouble with? Some of the fans have a push-on type of clip that can look like a nut in bad light.

 

Yeah I am quite sure that its a not instead of a clip. What type of fan sytem dod you have on your 88 IROC? Is it the two fan sstem and have yoy had to replaced the fan on it yet. Thanks for all the help.

 

Well just to let you guys know what happen, I manage to get the nut off and replace the old fan with the new one. Boy talking about making a different its like the new one spins faster then the one worn out one. Many thanks for everybody that help me through this experience.
