Upgrading to Dual Fans
I've had the 350 HO 330 HP installed for about 5 months now and today was the first day that I have driven it in real warm weather (78 degrees), and it would get up to 220-230 degrees in thick traffic but drop down to 190-200 on open road. The 85 Camaro has a single fan that comes on at 200 degrees and shuts off at 185 degrees with a 180 degree thermostat. It also has a new radiator. I'm thinking about going to the Universal Dual 11" fans that is a bolt on for 82-92 3rd Gen cars, and set that arrangement up the same as the single fan is now. Does anyone in the know think this will help solve the rise in temperature in traffic. Any advise would be appreciated.
The motor has a Carburetor with headers and 3" exhaust.

what kind of water pump do you have.. if it isnt a high effiency it doesnt matter how much air you get through the radiator, its gonna get hot.. also check the cfm vs the amount of amps, sometimes you can get single fan that puts out a lot of cfm and draws lower amps

Re: Upgrading to Dual Fans
I'm running the 350 HO Deluxe with Hooker 2055's and a three-inch system. I converted to GM dual electrics. The following link details what I did so that both fans kick on with either the AC or head temp:

Re: Upgrading to Dual Fans
Thanks for the info.
I do have a Edelbrock high flo reverse water pump.
I'm going to read over the Article in JamesC's reply.
The 220 degrees is probably ok now, but when it gets to ninty degrees, I think I'll have a problem. So, I want to get it squared away before then.
Thanks again.

Re: Upgrading to Dual Fans
Im Running 4th gen dual fans they were a snap to install. if you go to AutoZOne you can git a wiring kit for 30 bucks it takes all the headache out of installing switches and stuff I don't even have a switch. they come on when the cars hot and go off when the cars cold why do ppl put them on switches anyway?

Re: Upgrading to Dual Fans
Thanks. I ordered the dual fan setup from Eklers Camaro, supposed to be the same as the IrocZ 350 dual setup. I'm going to install the TCI wiring and switch kit for dual fans (200 on-185 off) Hope that solves the problem.
Hey James C, what degrees are you setting the intial timing? I got it set at 10 degrees advance, which is what is recommended from factory, the total degrees is about 32 advance. Maybe I could take it to about 36 degrees. What do you thank?
