Not starting over fan switch temp
1991 Camaro Z28
350ci 5.7L TPI
When my car would get over 220 it wouldn't start again till it got below 220. I replaced the stock fan switch with a 165 and now it only starts when it is below 165.
Can anybody help?

Re: Not starting over fan switch temp
Does it crank over and not start, or does it not even crank over. Either way, it's not (or shouldn't be) effected by fan switch.
Re: Not starting over fan switch temp
This exact problem sounds familiar to me. I've had this many times. I believe my issue was as the engine got really hot, so did the starter. When I shut the car off and went to restart it, the starter would not kick. In other words, nothing happened when I turned the key. It would start again though after a while. I don't have that problem anymore though since my car never gets that hot now.

Try new starter.
First, heat shield or wrap on starter.
Though should'nt have problem if starter good.
Could be heat soak on marginal starter.

Re: Not starting over fan switch temp
these cars are so old, i wouldn't be surprised if someone wired up the fan relay along some circuit involving the starter.
Good idea if you get the time. Let the car cool. Find the wire going to the fan switch, cut it or swap in a new set hooked to a toggle switch. Turn the car on, if it starts turn it off, then flick the switch and try again. If the switch effects the starter, then have fun tracking down exactly how someone ghetto rigged your electrical system. Follow the starter wires until you find the culprit.
If it's heat soak, maybe the fact that it's following the fan switch is all in your head.

You need to determine if your getting power to the starter when it's not cooperating. Check for power at starter main power wire and the smaller wire (on the other terminal) while turning key to start. If there's power present, your starter is the problem.
Double check battery connections, ground wire connection to engine, and main power wire connection at starter.
I fought heat soaked starters for many years when my car was completely stock. Been thru lots of starters since I bought the car in 84. Abt 6 years ago I installed a gear reduction starter (CVS I think) when I replaced my 305 with a 383. It's never even hinted at struggling. Love that starter!
