Air conditioning problem (compressor...does it work?)

Hey guys there is a very small amount of R-12 left in my system..So my compressors' magnetic clutch will not turn on. Is there any way to trick my pressure sensor to see if it works? Could I put a few psi of air in the system to see it the compressor turns on (like 10Psi?)

Thanks in advance guys.

Introducing air into the system is a BAD IDEA. If you want to test it out go to the parts store and get a can on freeze 12 to put in it.

Yes. Put 12 volts across the clutch.
Of course there is no need to run it more
than the half second it will take
to observe rotation.

Air is a bad idea. It can't condense and drives the pressure sky high. (Hence why vacuuming the system for 30-60 minutes is a GREAT idea when opening up the system or converting)

I wouldn't put any Freeze12 in there if you still have R-12 left. Particularly if you are going to be putting more R-12 in there. Freeze12 is 80% R134a which isn't compatible with the R-12 mineral oil currently in the system.

Just unplug the plug in this pic and jump the two connectors inside it. As mentioned earlier, don't do it for more than a second or two.

Re: Air conditioning problem (compressor...does it work?)

do as titan said, jumper the connector, but dont do this to get the a/c system to work, its for testing only, its a low pressure switch to turn the compressor clutch off when the system is low, and running the system with low charge could mean the life of your compressor.
