OK. champion received my radiator 7-11-13 and emailed me 7-15-13 that it was indeed faulty and being replaced for free. I already have confirmation it was shipped. can't ask for more than that!

Champion has been good to me too. They replaced my radiator free and have sent me a few free radiator caps all for free, no shipping.

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?
my issue is the radiator sits down perfect on the driver side but passenger side is lifted up also keeping in mind the driver side radiator has the rubber mount at the bottom and top and the passenger side does not because it was sticking up way more than it was right now so now I have to find a way to mount my fans on the radiator..

Did you trim down the raised runner that seperates the oem radiator from the condenser?

Yea I did sir.. Finally got It to sit .. But the bottom line that goes to the transmission is leaking my transmission oil I found the cause its not the line or the piece that screws into the radiator its the radiator itself . tomorrow I have to go to a shop and see if they can rethread whole for me...

so the problem is solved... I went to my local auto parts store and bought a high-performance tranny cooler so I can rewire my lines so they won't go through the radiator..

I think it still has to go through the radiator. I've read that it's not a good idea to run cold fluid through the tranny. I could be wrong though.

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?
I did quite a bit of searching about this and I feel like it's pretty safe to rewire my lines to a tranny cooler... it's not going to be really cold fluid it still going to be to operating temperature it's just going to have its own little cooler instead of running through the radiator.. and in my opinion this is my best option instead of taking my radiator all back out and having it rethreded..

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?

You'll love the new radiator. And I agree with bypassing the radiator and running the transmission cooler by itself. I have it that way too. But I wouldn't go with a tube and fin transmission cooler in Phoenix. It's just too darn hot there. I recommend the stacked plate style for pretty much any climate, but especially hot climates.
Here is my stacked plate.

And looking down from the hood latch.

This will keep you cool.

Hey Reid, I'm so glad you posted a link to the trans cooler you put on your car. I remember reading your post a long time ago about it, and I've been meaning to ask you exactly which model it was. Thanks for the links. I'm gonna purchase one and get it on the way soon!

I don't know man. I've read that you have to have heat in the tranny in order for the fluid to lubricate properly.

But you know what. You really need to start your own thread. This thread is about the 3 row radiator. This thread is technically been hijacked. So lets start a new thread in the tranny section and keep this strictly about the 3 row rad.

I called Champion and Led Foot today, they are out of stock on the 3 Row Rad, What are the Pros and Con's of 2,3 and 4 Row Rads? They are saying that the 2 Row should cool better.
Also they are made oversees and not right here in the USA according to The guy I spoke with at Champion.
Anyone Try the Mishimoto Rads?

You only need to "heat" the trans fluid with the radiator if you drive in the winter freezing cold temps.
Otherwise the trans fluid heats up pretty quick on it's own, thus the need for a good cooler.

You don't need to plug the tranny cooler ports if you don't use them.
The only "ps cooler" these cars had is the long hardline that loops under the radiator.

Sorry, I meant to say loop under radiator.
The radiators often come with plugs in the ports already, usually plastic. Maybe you can take one to the local store and match the thread.

Using an 82' trans am single row aluminum radiator plastic tanks. Runs 180 deg on the street in the summer. Restrictor used instead of thermostat. 3200lbs runs high 10's in 1/4. Factory V6 single fan. I think the trick here is to use the lowest hanging air dam under the radiator.

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?
Guess I'll throw my 2 cents in here.
I got a Champion 3 row back in may. It has been nothing but problems for me since I got it. The brace across the top was welded on crooked, so I had to cut off some of it. I trimmed down all the mounts and also tried completely removing them, and the radiator still didn't sit right. I had to cut the rad/fan hold down in half, because it wouldn't fit around the top of the radiator right, and needed cut to flex. The radiator cap is hitting my hood. The tranny cooler line stripped out, leading me to install a 24,000 gvrw cooler. And now the final straw, it is now leaking where the tubes meet the tank on the pass side when it is running and cold, only 6 months old. Once it warms up, it stops.
Needless to say, it took me 24 man hours to get it installed as good as I did. I bought it as a defect for 150 bucks. All that was supposedly wrong with it was a small hole they welded up, but in all reality the whole damn thing is a defect. They refused to do anything but have me send it back and pay the difference for a new one, and **** that. I'll just save wasting my money, and get the one from jegs for 300 shipped. At least I can hopefully trust their quality a bit more than this garbage company.

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?
I ended up using bolts on the fans

there is a rubber O-ring between the shroud and fan support bracket. I got a bunch of them from home depots plumbing dept. I'm not sure how much vibration these fans generate, but I'm hoping that the rubber will help.

I still ended up using zip ties to hold the shroud to the radiator. Origonally I drilled holes and tried using bolts. I took the bolts out and switched to zip ties because I could not fit a tool in that small area to tighten the nuts. I would have used rivets, but the holes where way too big for that. Here you can see the zip ties holding the shroud. It seems solid to me, the shroud is mounted tight to the rad. I cannot move or shake it at all.

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?
My car was already pulled apart, so I did not even bother to put the radiator bushings back in... I don't think this rad would fit if I did. Here is the rad zip tied into place, it's ghetto... but I don't have the radiator top mounting bracket.

Notice how my radiator support is bent!! My car is a salvage...

I have some hoses that I'm going to hack up with a saw. but have not done so just yet.

Looking good, I would just be concerned with the Zip Ties degrading over time and snapping.

Re: So you guys want a bolt in all aluminum 3 core radiator?
My champion radiator leaked from the cap (replaced with a stock one), tranny inlet leaked, bottom tranny line was stripped, and the drain leaked. Fixed all that mess only to have the coolant boil out cause the champion fans cant cool worth a damn. Removed the shroud/fans and butchered some ls1 fans to work as a bandaid. The fans have to work at full blast all the time to cool the engine.
As soon as i get the car out of storage im going to replace this champion pos with a factory ls1 rad/fan or becool unit.
Dont buy this junk! Many others have had the same problem.

Just picked up a 3 core aluminum radiator from GPI Racing on eBay for $162, seemed like a steal. Well after the regular fitment issues with the rubber insulators, the trans cooler lines are the wrong thread pitch and it leaks coolant from one of the fins when its cold. I had to install an aftermarket cooler that I was not planning on doing. I'm working with them right now and hopefully they help me out. We shall see what happens...

What about this one for $160 free shipping? You think it's one of those "you get what you pay for" kind of deals?
