is stock enough?

I have an 87 gta minus engine... I got a hold of a 76 350 thats been bored .60 over. plans are to carb it. I have the factory radiator and the fatory dual electric fans. I've been told that theres NO way that the stock cooling system is going to keep the engine cool. I was thinking of opening up the rear vents on the 4 vent hood to let some heat out.
Is it true that the stock radiator and fans won't be enough?

Re: is stock enough?

you have the cooling system already so dump the engine in it and fire it up. if it gets too hot shut if down and get a bigger aluminum radiator. what can be the harm?

just trying to plan things out accordingly. I still have to build the engine and get a trans before I can dump it in there. LOL just trying to figure out what to expect

Re: is stock enough?

Stock cooling system has been more than enough for my build. Its not a full on race engine but it stays 180-190* even in the hot MS summer time.I was told the same thing when I went to a 350.I just make sure it stays clean and run a 160 stat.My fans do stay on all the time for some reason. One of these days I`ll figure out why and fix it but I dont think it`s that big of a deal.Unless your going to have a radical set up I think you should be fine.

thanks grady. I was having trouble understanding what the problem would be myself, didnt know if maybe the headers would let more heat into the engine bay. I figured since the car was a 350 from the factory, that the radiator would be fine for a 350, but a couple people told me because the 350 I'm going to use is bored .60 over that it will get too hot and I'll need a bigger radiator... But then again, I hear a LOT of things that don't make sense, LOL

Re: is stock enough?

Its possible being bored may bring your temps up but Id just stick it in and see.Radiator easy enough to change.
