no cooling fan after engine swap

84 Z 305 HO Manual tranny. the 305 blew up on me so I put in a 307 I had laing around and put in a non CC carb and HEI. everything is working except for the cooling fan. I know the switch is between the last 2 cylinders on the passanger side, and I know the fan is good( it works with the ac switch). the switch was to small for the hole so I put a reducer ( enlarger ) on it and put teflon tape on the threads. I also thought I had maybe mixed the knock sensor connection up with it and switch it around. also I replaced the thrmostate neck with one that dont have all the connections. I also removed the air pump, cruise controll and ac as well as alot of vac lines. I now have alot of electrical lines that go nowere for now. everything worked fine b4 the engine swap. am I missing something? would the teflon tape I used cause no ground? I used about 5 wraps or so. there are no leaks in the system, radiator is fine and system is full so far as I can tell. I am sure its electrical. a wiring diagram would be usefull, but cant find one. even my 84 chiltons dont have one. thanks..

the connector should have only 1 wire, if you ground out the wire, the fan should turn on, with the key in run.

The tape will not affect the ground, it all comes off when the fitting is screwed in.

See if you can find the plug, it should be black and a oval shape. The knock sensor is in the same side of the engine, so maybe you have them confused.

Excellent. just the wire color alone will help out, and the diagrams will help for trouble shooting . thanks. I thought I may have switched them, but with the color I will know for sure and can start there. I plan on installing a lower switch so will do that first and rule that out.

Re: no cooling fan after engine swap

well it turns out my wire is dark green, and after messing with it for a bit I pulled the seal out and tried it and it worked fine. came on at about 240. but wouldnt work with the seal on, so after looking at the seal I figured out that its much easier to put the seal on first, then plug it in. learned something new. LOL.....
