Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum and am looking forward to picking everyones brains for help on my new project. I have a 1983 Z28 camaro, and am in the process of restoration. For some reason somone has had all my a/c ducts apart and have not put everything back properly. My biggest problem is that the incoming lines for the vacuum accuators (that open the "doors" that direct the a/c between defrost the the main dash vents) aren't attached to the dash cotroll, or there at all. So when I was at the junk yard I found a set, they are a purpleish pinkish color and I have no clue where they hook up to, in order to recieve air pressure. If anyone could help me that would be fantastic.

After some tedious research, I have come up with the thought that my incoming lines should come off something called a plenum??? I don't know what that is. And with all the trouble everyone appears to have I think I'll go ahead and replace all my tubes. But I first have to figure out the main lines that come in to power the actuators. I forgot to mention in the post above that there is also a single gray tube coming out of a (see through connector) right next to the purpleish one. A diagram would be great. Or some detailed explanation, because I don't have a very good car parts vocab. lol.

Certainly some one knows what I'm talking about out there.

 

The plenum is referring to the intake manifold on the engine. If you look on the passenger side of the the firewall, between the engine and the blower motor box, you should see 2 black vacuum tubes in the wiring harness that comes through the firewall. These are the vacuum lines that supply engine vacuum to the ducting system. One will be connected to the heater valve, a big black plastic thing in the middle of your heater hoses. The other should connect to a "tee" on the back of the intake manifold.

Sorry, I don't have any vacuum diagrams for that year. I'm sure someone on here does though.

I looked at the intake manifold and there is a hose that comes out of it. There is a T and one of the hoses go to a black box bolted to the firewall, but it's small, probably half the dimensions of a loaf of bread, and the other hose goes about a foot, and then it's cut and there is a drywall screw down the middle of it to plug it. Is this the lines you are referring to?

Yeah, that is the line you're looking for. The black box is probably the MAP sensor. The one that is cut will go to your heater controls.

What kind of tubing should I use and where do I get it? When you say heater control you're talking about the module that fits in the dash, that has all the tubes coming out of it to different actuators, or does this line run to the heater control, and then there are lines that run from it, to my module in the dash.

By heater controls, I mean the controls in the dash right above the radio. If you look at the firewall behind the passenger side exhaust manifold you will should see the 2 rubber heater hoses. Below those hoses will be a wiring harness that comes of of the firewall. In that harness are 2 vacuum lines. One of them will go to your cut vacuum line. The other will go the the heater control valve. This is a black plastic thing attached to the rubber heater hoses above the passenger exhaust manifold, just behind the alternator.
