Serp belt question with A/C delete
I have taken the smog pump and the A/C pulleys off my 89 L98, I plan on not using a delete pulley for either one, just leaving the brackets empty (basically just using the tensioner). Has anyone else done this? I know that I will need a much smaller than stock serp belt, so I wanna know if anyone has done this and what belt they used. Thanks!

Don't think it'll work. In order to make the belt go around the water pump pulley and clear, you're going to have to go over the idler pulley, instead of under. If you do this, there won't be any tension on the idler pulley, as it springs with downward tension, it'll just be at the lowest point in it's movement, and you won't have any way to put tension on the belt.
Look at the serp pulley pics in the AIR removal tech article pics - you'll see why it won't work. Trust me - if there was anyway to delete the A/C without that $80 delete pulley, there'd be a tech article on it!

They make aftermarket AC delete pulleys for much cheaper than the NOS GM stuff.

It's a little more work but I relocated my alternator to a mid mount location on the passenger side and run the belt as shown in the photo (I have a manual steering box so I don't need to run a power steering pump). You need to get a new alternator and a water pump with normal rotation (just tell the parts guy you need them for an 84 Chevy truck). The belt I used is 42.7" lg #427K6.

as a matter of fact you can use a belt with just the belt tensioner on that side. i believe that i used a 72" belt. measure it out. we did it on a 406 small block and it worked great.

SystemX - what alternator bracket did yo use, and does that company make a bracket for the p/s pump? I'd love to do what you did, but I want my p/s as well.

it's a universal alt bracket and the serp belt pullies. It's nothing different from a v-belt setup except pullies.
My 87 had the same thing with a different bracket stock. '87 was serp for crank alt and water pump, v-belt for the rest (maybe 85 and 86 too, I would have to dig to be for certain).

Camaronewbie - I got my alternator bracket on eBay but you can also find them at summit. I'm not sure about the auto parts stores. Just do a search for mid mount chevy alternator bracket. They are ridiculously expensive for what they are but works great. I'm not sure what they have for power steering.

I own a 89 305 tbi camaro, i have a a/c delete pulley right now, would i be able to by-pass the a/c delete pulley? I have everything else, smog pump, alt, steering pump, etc.

Why would you want to bypass your a/c delete pulley? Its not sucking much power if really any at all.

Here's what I did, probably not the most practical solution... I made it with the intention of doing an LSx swap sooner than later, but that swap is barely progressing, and this seems to work well enough in the mean time (granted I haven't put that many miles on it):
