Help!! Car gets way too hot

I have a 92 camaro rs with a 305. My car was running hot and I noticed i had rust in my radiator a couple of weeks ago and I didn't have enough money to buy a new one until recently so I went and bought a new one. I take off the radiator top and I see a rust colored cream/paste on the cap and floating on top of the water! I drain it and I see lots of rust colored coolant and I flush the engine untill the water was clear out of all the hoses. I put the new radiator in and I pour some engine flush stuff in the radiator and fill it with water. and take the car for a drive, like the directions say and the car is running hot past 220. What do you think this could be? Is it a blown head gasket? There is no white smoke when the car is warm and the oil looks fine. I don't know what it could be?

Are your fans coming on??

Do a compression check.
Are you using just water and the additive? I would use antifreeze mix of 50/50

Yeah im pretty sure the fans are coming on. Im gonna check again though and the flush additive said to just use water and after 3-6 hours of being driven to drain the radiator and then fill with coolant

Re: Help!! Car gets way too hot

I figured i could post in this post since i have a similar problem/ question

This is what my radiator looks like inside of it currently (attachment)

When i sit still at a light for to long, it starts to run really hot.

Based on what my radiator looks like right now, should i get a new one?
Im think the one that is in there right now is original.

-Thanks

A head gasket can be bad and not smoke any. Sometimes it will have a slow leak from the coolant to the combustion chamber. I had a v6 that done that. I never seen any smoke and the coolant never seemed to leak out fast. If you have a brown pasty rust you may also have a blocked thermostat. Rust will also eat the fins on the inside of water pump too if it's been like that for a while.

I had a problem with my car getting hot sitting in traffic. I would sometimes hear my fan and sometimes I would not. I was not able to track down the problem until the fuse link going to the fan finally burned. It had a short and that was the problem.

Re: Help!! Car gets way too hot

So I took the car for a little drive and when I noticed the car was getting hot I checked to see if the fan was comng on and it wasn't. I jus replaced the fan switch maybe 2 months ago so I don't think it could have went out that fast. What else could be stopping the fan from coming on? In my other camaro the fan was wired to come whenever the car was on but I don't remember how to do that does anyone know what I am talking about?

Re: Help!! Car gets way too hot

I turned the ac on in the car and went to see if that made the fan work, but the fan still doesn't work. What does this mean? Does this mean that the fan switch relay is bad?

Re: Help!! Car gets way too hot

Check the fuse link from the fan to the firewall also it could be a bad fan. Even if the fan switch on the motor is bad it would still cut on a when you start the A/C.
