Passangar fan dead and gauge tops out high?
Ok this is weird.. I have a stock 1992 350 camaro, the temp gauge reads all the way to HOT.. but the car temp is normal, heat lazer gun to check. when i plug the paper clip in the ADAL "the thing under the dash", only the drivers fan comes on, i powered both fan up and they work great, So what gives???? on the gauge problem..with the key on plug wire to temp senser on driver head and the gauge goes hot even on a ice cold motor? un plug it and the gauge goes down? any ideas? Thanks

ALDL only switches dr. side fan as that one is ECM controlled. The other is controlled by the thermostatic switch in the pass side head. Pull the connector and ground it, the fan should come on. Sounds like the gauge sender in the dr side head is shot.

This is the second gauge sender.... 2 different brands? same problem? So your saying pull the passanger side fan plug that goes to the motor/head and ground it? I do know 4 sure the fans will power up if i hook them 2 the battery,So i hate being lost! I will try the grounding thing

Yes, pull the connector off the sender and ground it. Fan should kick on immediately.
Hooking them up to the battery only confirms the motor is OK. There's a relay next to the headlamps on the pass. side. The fan switch completes the relay driving circuit by grounding the wire to the block when the switch reaches it's closing temp.
If the fan kicks on when grounding the connector, you know the wiring is OK and the relay too, if the fan still doesn't work the prob. is the switch.

There's a relay next to the headlamps on the pass side? i thought the relays for the fans were on the fire wall ...drivers side? thanks for the replys, by the way

There's a big connector on the pass side too, next to the battery area. It has all the wires in it for the fans, running to the fan, to the relay and to the switch in the head. Follow the wires and you will find the relay.
You can see the connector here, the relay is just outside the pic on the right, next to the radiator. there's a flange perpendicular to the rad, the relay is bolted to that

Re: Passangar fan dead and gauge tops out high?
Ok, I have no relay in that location, I do have 3 on the fire wall, i check all of them "swaped out with the working fan", and all seem to work no problem there..the drivers side fan comes on when the ac is turned on or the temp gets high..passanger side nothing..On the passanger side head i pullled the plug off the temp switch, and grounded it...nothing happend, i check voltage at that plug and it read 12.0v On the other side of the motor i check voltage at the wire running to the gauge and it read 14v? I'm puzzled..
what am i missing
I'm lost again ps i checked all the fuse under the dash and all is well there also

Re: Passangar fan dead and gauge tops out high?
Trace the wiring to find the relay, the switch in the head does not directly ground the fan motor to complete the circuit, the relay does that. If you have 12V to the fan motor and grounding the - side to the chassis turns the fan on you know the issue is on the grounding side, so either the switch or the relay. Since you grounded the switch connector and nothing happened it must be the relay or the wiring in between.
