water pump clockwise or counterclockwise?

I have a 400sbc and its time for a new water pump, I'm trying to figure out if I need a cw or ccw pump. It has a v-belt drive so I am assuming that it is a cw pump but I just want to make sure.

If somebody could explain to me why the serpentine and v-belt is different that would be cool too. Thanks for the help.

Re: water pump clockwise or counterclockwise?

v-belt is CW rotation-there are two styles of CW rotation
"long"style orignal chevy water pumps:1969-75 and
1976-87,IIRC the only difference is the position of the
bracket lug on the top.The reason rotation is important
is because the impeller blades are curved and will pump
poorly if rotated in the wrong direction. Also the hub bolt
pattern is different between the two rotations

The way the serp belt is routed, when it wraps the water pump it wraps it backwards - that's why
