radiator hoses --really hard ,,normal

hi , i have just a question regarding rad hoses,,,when the car starts and runs even for a few minutes the rad hoses especially the top one becomes hard like a rock...it doesn't overheat because my temp gauge says barely 1/4 ,,it has a new temp switch and a 6 blade flex fan that runs all the time bolted to the pulley at the same speed as the engine,,,has a 160 degree thermostat...runs fine ,,,but the hoses are hard,,,is this normal?...it has been like that for years....it's a 350 1985 camaro with mild mods including cam....thanks.

Re: radiator hoses --really hard ,,normal

Yes thats normal, that means the cooling system is building pressure. And the only reason the cooling system builds pressure is to raise the boiling point of the coolant so that the engine wont overheat. Dont worry about it.
