LS1 fans work bad ***
i recently put a set of LS1 fans on my 87 irocz and they work amazing i didnt find any threads on here about people using them. the only mod i had to do was cut one tab of that stock piece that goes on top to hold the rad in place. i got my fans off a 02 camaro SS at a local yard for 50bucks. just figured its a good cheap mod if your looking to cool you rad better i think they pull 4000 cfm together which is alot better then the stock dual fans.

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
i am using the jegs dual fan relay kit so i can control the fans with a switch i dont trust the other fan switches. it might be my car tho because my stock fans would turn on all weird times lol but i figured controling them with a switch would be easier plus with both the fans on at the same time it should cool faster i think at least.

lol. according to my gauge mine turn on a 200-210. i have both wired to turn on at once... i just went to napa auto parts and got mine. oem seems to work better for me. i used to run a switch in my 85. i love the hands free operation and i don't worry about overheating in traffic if i forget to turn it on. the 400 in my 85 didn't like to overheat. glad to see someone else got these fans tho. i got my whole set up for trade... changed some brakes and asked for the fans sitting in the corner.

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
I have the stock dual fans, the stock radiator & a stock thermostat. Low to mid 50s today. 1 hr drive to....Idled for over a hour (dead battery, had to leave it running off the alternator), 1 hr drive back home. And my car never got above 180, even while idling.
Of course...My heat extractor hood has a lot to do with it. You can mod parts like crazy or just get a good hood to do it all for you. I can't wait for the 100-105 degree Summer days. I bet the engine still won't break 180.

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***

It is custom hand built. If you have the metal skills, you could build one too.
It really rocks for keeping the engine temp down. 2hr drive yesterday in mid 70s air weather.....

All stock here too, well 160* Thermostat, Daytona hood works just as well, just not very unique lol. Get it painted so we can see the finished product!! How did you guys wire up the LS1 fans, is the wiring similar? Don't want to run a switch, I'm forgetful...

Do you have any pics of them installed? I'm thinking of picking up some ls1 fans also for my swap. Also do you have a 3rd gen radiator? and how did you get it to set in place? thanks man

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
how do you post pics. i got a stock radiator from autozone considering bugs made a nesting place in my old on lol the fans fit fine and the wiring was easy just you gotta make sure you dont wire them reverse otherwise thell be a pusher fan not a puller. its a great mod for the price. i had to cut one lil piece off the fans to make them fit. they fit like there meant to be there. looks really good and theres still a few inches in place between the pullies and fans. just sucks because i have to take my powersteering pully off and i have to take the fans out again.

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
Or you could wait and see what Dante produces in a glass hood as it is going to be the same hood with water drainage built in . I can't wait to see it done . For those of you interested check out the thread for a new Firebird hood I believe they are going to make it for the Camaro also . Back to topic . Would the later style dual fans be better for a LS conversion ? I may go that route or get a 3.4 instead of the 2.8 under the hood . It will be a long time before either happens unless one or the other falls into my lap for a song .

Nice work, I'll most likely use stock ls1 fans when I do my swap.
How do you mount it on though? I assume it's a 3rd gen radiator

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
i mounted mine right to the radiator with these special zip tie type things there meant for radiators i used 6 of them to hold it on really snug i had to drill some holes through the fans but it didnt hurt them im also running mine with a relay kit from jegs so that i can use a switch
Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
i made 4 little brackets from 1/8 x 1" aluminum stock from lowes. that way i wasnt using anything that would be touching the radiator tubes and fins. i also used a flexalite controller with switches that control always on 100% or completely off. the controller itself come on at 60% then work to 100% if needed.

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
Did this years ago. Great mod. Of course I only had a single fan on my application. Now these fans are more shrouded for better flow through the radiator. They look better than stock dual fan setups too. But too each his own.

Re: LS1 fans work bad ***
thats why i did this too. only had a single fan. it cooled fine but i wanted duals for any further build up. the stock parts work well if your engine is running good. i have a ws6 style hood with the nostrils cut out so im sure it helps a bit. i also got my airdam in place. the stock dual fan wiring plugs right in iirc. for the single fan, i just added a relay off the fan power wire to turn on the second fan at the same time. i think it does move alittle more air tho. it has a shroud to direct the air as the stockers dont. i have the stock thermostat in and it only heats to 190* unless im on it then itll only go to 205*. best trade i ever made.....
