A/C recharge

A/C on my 86 was blowing cool air, thought I would recharge it. bought a kit from Wal-mart.. When to connect it and the kit has a clamp on gauge, not a screw on one. It wouldn't connect and actually let pressure out, now it is worse than before. Where do I get the right gauge and hose? Or what type of set up do I need to look for?

Hopefully you weren't trying to recharge an R12 system with 134.

And how do I tell, WWW.classicautoair.com does not show any conversion kits for firebirds and camaros except 1st and 2nd gens. so is an 86 r12 or r134 and if r12 where do I get a conversion kit?

Your 86 is R12. Since converting to 134 is fairly common, you should be able pick up what you need online or at an autoparts store. To do the conversion correctly, the R12 should be recovered (and not vented into the air). A bit of research on site will provide more info.

You might be well advised to take your car to a shop and, if all's well, charged with R12.
