Fan Problems

I am having a weird problem with my single fan. The other day while driving home from work I heard a funny noise form the front and when I got home I found my fan no longer working. My car does not use the cts in the head as a previous owner had bypassed it when it went bad. (Found this out when I replaced the sensor and the fans still did not come back on when they should.) I relaced the fan motor with a used one from a wrecking yard and still no luck. With my research on here I thought it may have been fan motor relay but I tested that this afternoon and it is working fine. The fuse under the dash is also fine. I am now lost as to what the problem may be and electrical is my weakest area for my diagnostic skills. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fan Problems

Check the fusible link off of the positive battery cable. Mine popped the link and the fan didn't work. There is also another fuse attached to the inside of the fender by the battery.

Re: Fan Problems

I found the problem, the wire that connects to the positive battery cable had broken causing the fan to not get any power.

Is the fan switch in the passenger side of the block still there? It's down between the number 5 and 7 cylinder. Tha'ts what controls when the fan come on. Don't confuse this withthe knock sensor which is down toward the bottom of the block.

Re: Fan Problems

no, the wire itself had broke. It was the wire that ran from the harness that the fan wires are in to the positive cable distribution block thing that is bolted between the radiator and the battery. I would have never saw it had I not been looking in the that area.
