temp jumping????

so when i first start my car it heats up fine. stays right around 165* i believe thats normal for a 3.1 camaro not to sure. but then after a while it heats up to around 220* then cools back down to 165* then goes to about 250* then back down to 220* then back and forth, i feel like i cant keep my eyes off the temp gauge cause i dont wanna over heat it. any suggestions on how i can get this under control???? everything on the car is stock. suggestions are appreciated

Re: temp jumping????

Firstly, check your temp gauge for accuracy against something else, like a laser temp gun.

If it's not lying, then sounds like maybe your fan(s) aren't staying on when they should be. Are the fan(s) off when it heats up?
