cooling issues
Hi guys im new to this forum, I think im posting in the right place but if not just point me in the right direction. Anyway i have a 1990 RS camaro 305 tbi. From what I've read so far i understand that these cars tend to run a little on the hot side and thats a normal thing. So when my car runs at 220ish it hasn't bohtered me until today when the SES light came on standing at a light. Once i started driving the temp gauge went down and the light went off. Has this happened to anyone and what can be done about it. Im waiting on a buddy to bring me a code reader so later on i can post the code if that helps. any help is much appreciated.

Also I have a brand new radiator, upper and lower hoses, tstat with whatever the OE specs are(180* or 192*?)

I had an issue when I swapped in my 350 for my 305. The car ran hotter and since the carb wasn't tuned, my emissions was off. The light would come on in traffic then when the engined cooled it would go off. Once I got everything tuned back up, the light stayed off. That said, based on my experienec, when your car gets hot, it's changing how the O2 sensor is reading, which is why you're getting the "soft fault". the computer doesn't like how it's reading. As long as the fault goes away, I wouldn't worry about it all that much. Check your O2 sensor, EGR and make sure your "dialed in", could be an indication that a sensor is going bad.

you could be right about that. Today i was driving it around to try and make the light come on and it did before the car even got hot. within a minute or two the light was off again. This made me think its no longer a cooling issue because the car has never overheated once. It could very well be a sensor going bad then.

have you tried to run a OBD1 scan to pull the code? you can check the number of flashes with your car off and acessories on, use a paper clip or piece of wire and jump the upper row last two pins together.
