headers are getting red hot help!!

Hey what up guys this is what's going on, a week ago I got my engine and transmission total rebuilt but its been heating up at idle when waiting for the light to turn green, it has a brand new radiator and thermostat. today I drove my wife to work which is 40 miles round trip I noticed it was getting hot so as soon as I exit the freeway and start driven on the street it gets even hotter and its running like crap I lose power and trany feels like its slipping. well I make it home open up the hood and my headers are glowing red hot. I'm thinking cats are plugged but not sure. what do you guys think it could be. I would appetite any help and thank you in advanced.

Re: headers are getting red hot help!!

running lean will cause the headers to glow and the engine to run hot.

Re: headers are getting red hot help!!

"late"ignition timing can cause the glowing headers too.

Re: headers are getting red hot help!!

You guys don't think it could be a clogged converter. I also noticed my exhaust sounds like ****. I guess I'll check it in the morning. timing, fuel, etc. and if that doesn't work I'm cutting the converter out. I would still like more suggestions so please reply. thanks

Re: headers are getting red hot help!!

You likely have unburned fuel in the exhaust. Either too rich or retarded timing.

Re: headers are getting red hot help!!

A clogged converter could cause it as well but check your timing and fuel first. Cheaper to fix than replacing a converter.
