Cooling fan wont shut off after new fan switch

So I have been working on putting in a 350 into my 1989 firebird formula and when I was doing the motor swap I broke the fan switch off. So after I got a new one I installed it and the fan just comes on when I turn the key on so does anyone have any ideas i really dont wanna pull it back out but I really want everything to work as it should.

3 likely possibilites:

1) The switch is defective and will not shut off.
2) The wire is shorted to ground somewhere between the switch and the relay.
3) The relay is jammed on.

Im not sure what to do because when I unhook the pig tail from the switch the fan shuts off but then it comes back on if I plug it back in is there a way I can un jam the switch maybe unhook the battery and hook it back up?

Also when I ground the wire to the frame the fan comes on so I dont think its a problem with the wire itself but I could be wrong

Then you left with either a short somewhere from switch to relay or bad switch, short is much more common than bad switch

Do you think there could be a short inside the pig tail I had alot of trouble getting it to clip onto the new switch so i gave it a little push with a screw driver??

Re: Cooling fan wont shut off after new fan switch

id take a close look at the connector good thing is there's really only two possibilities now just a little troubleshooting, is it a dual fan setup? if so there is two relays you can switch the connectors and if problem persists you can rule out the relay

You have a faulty switch. Buy a new one, replace, take replaced back for refund.

I did this and they gave me the wrong switch this time the one they gave me is made for a dual fan setup and im running a single fan setup the switch they gave me does turn the fan on and off but not at the right temp the fan now comes on at 236 so hopefully the third switch I am getting will solve the problem.

All switches turn on at 238 regardless of motor/year/fan array (excluding tta i believe).
