Water Pump broken ???
Water Pump broken ???
Yesterday I drove my camaro 91 V6 and when I stopped I saw that it was leaking from front of the engine and it was my coolant
It was not dripping but pouring and in 10-15min there was a big pool underneath.
When I reached home there was no leaking and when the engine cooled down I opened the radiator cap, it was empty and so was the coolant compartment as well, S***.
I looked and felt at the both hoses from the radiator and I didnt feel or see that the hoses were wet from the outside but I touched under the water pump and it felt kind of wet and sticky (oil/grease).
I will try to fill up the radiator + coolant compartment with water and let the car get hot and see where it leaks from but I think its the water pump and the gasket to it which is gone !
What do you guys think ?
Which aftermarket water pump should I get for my 1991 V6 (if it is the one broken) ?
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'd probably fill it up and run it to see where it's leaking from to be sure, but it could be one of the gaskets went bad and the pump itself is fine. generally if the pump goes bad it'll weep coolant from the weep hole but not gush.
Re: Water Pump broken ???
Rent a cooling system pressure tester. It's free at auto zone, just a deposit they return when you bring it back. Fill it up, pump it up to build pressure, then get under and see where it's leaking.

It is the water pump. With that amount of water you can look under the car and see it pouring out the weep hole.

Re: Water Pump broken ???
He said he'd check for the leak when it was hot. I'd rather be looking for the leak with cold water pouring on my face with a pressure tester than hot.
Re: Water Pump broken ???
Not a great Idea to check the coolant system while is Hot. It might burn yourselves.
I will do it while the engine is cool down a bit, then put water in to check where does it leak. It should be easy to see it because that amount of coolant come out in 10-15 mins.

I have still not checked the leak yet but thanks for the tips guys.
And what I always forget to mention is that I live in Sweden and here to borrow some stuff from ex "auto zone" does not happen.
I remember those days when I used to live in the US and all this (gong to local auto store and rent) was easy
And also an OEM water pump in Sweden costs $150 so most of the time I buy parts from US and even if I pay shipping + customs I get it cheaper than Sweden.
How about Dura water pump ?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dura-International-Engine-Water-Pump-543-01600-/130885419809?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e79610321&vxp=mtr
Is it good enough or do I need something better ?
What do you recommend for a V6 ?

Re: Water Pump broken ???
Never heard of it.
Where is it made?
If it's the typical Chinesium thing, i.e. the cheeeepest thing you can legally print "water pump" on the side of the box, you don't want it. I'd use a rebuilt OEM one LONG BEFORE putting some of that other crap on my car.

Have you looked at "Rockauto.com" they ship to just about anywhere, even to me here in England.
Re: Water Pump broken ???
Rockauto's shipping is expensive. If I just order the gasket the shipping is $40. That s**** !
How is this GMB pump ? Are they better ?

My suggestion, considering your trouble finding one? Go Delco. May cost a little more, but you know what your'e getting is the real deal.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-DELCO-wat...918#vi-content
Edit: Dug a little deeper, and that merchant does not ship inernationally. I'd still send him a message and ask though. One delco pump went 22 years without fail, another should last the life of the car.

Re: Water Pump broken ???
Why "carpartkings.com"?
Expand your search horizons a little bit; get away from the made-in-China cheeeeeeeeepest thing that won't dissolve (right away at least) in coolant.
In the US, water pumps for these cars are cheeeep and plentiful; there's a parts store on every corner where you can buy one. Therefore, over here, if one goes bad, it's not a big deal; a minor inconvenience is all it amounts to. Where YOU are though, it's a bit different. So, how often do you want to put yourself through what you're going through right now? Are you having fun trying to locate one? Want to do this again sometime soon? If so, then buy one of those Chinese ones. But if you want to FIX THE CAR just ONCE and be DONE with it, pay what it takes ONCE, and put it behind you.

Re: Water Pump broken ???
I don't have that spare time to fix the same thing over and over again
So any websites you know about ? Any good American brands except AcDelco (Joe Tag already mentioned this one).
