New Vortec 350 high temp issue
Figured would be easier to start my own thread.. Anyways I have a newly broke in Vortec 350 in an 86 iroc. Engine was rated at 450hp with 11:1 compression. I assume it was the stock rad in it but since the start of my project everything has messed up. Nearing the end of this adventure, the temp quickly heats up to 190 idle then driving normal city will sit around 195-205, u hop on highway and temp skyrockets to 230 usually, sometimes sits at 225 sometimes jumps past depending on my foot position :/. I have a new 180 thermo, a single electric fan that came with the car behind rad and I added 2 small powerful fans for the front of rad. No ac no heat, Uhm fans are bypassed to stay on all the time. Messing with timing makes a diff but the best ive got the temp was the numbers listed above. Any advice on how to get temp down would be amazing. I have no airdam. I know being a high comp motor it may run a little hotter but 220+ gets a little excessive. If I missed any info feel free to ask, any help on cooling this down would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: New Vortec 350 high temp issue
And and one day when temp passed 230 it dumped coolant out of rad cap, since that day when temp goes past 230 no coolant boils out. Sometimes I wonder if my temp gauge is messed up but it's not digital. It's an aftermarket, just one coiled wire thing to a custom gauge cluster. One day I killed it when temp passed 230, left key on to run fans and gauge showed 240 but still no water boilin out. My main issue it the temp.. Gotta make a cross country drive at the end of the month to see my wife graduate basic training and gotta get my highway heat issue fixed asap

Since its a highway issue you need to increase air pressure in front of the radiator and have negative pressure behind it relative to the front.
Buy or make an air dam.
Seal air paths around the radiator forcing all air to go through it.
Hookup a bypass from the pump to the intake manifold to help with low speed cooling like if you were looping the heater lines.
Replace your radiator cap if its spewing fluid at 230*
Run an overflow tank.
Run an appropriate mixture of antifreeze to water to help boilover.
Congrats to your better half.
