Wiring Electric Fan without ECM
I have an 88 Firebird Vin E TBI with the L03 5.0L; however I am swapping over to a new carbed 350 and I understand that the stock electric fan is controlled by the ecm. How will I get the fan to work properly without the ecm? I'm a little confused when it comes to the wiring. Sorry if this is basic question but I'm totally lost. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Wiring Electric Fan without ECM
If you have a stock, single fan you can get by with a standard 30A fan relay kit. Use your stock coolant temp switch to trigger the relay. If you want, I stock everything from a simple kit like that to a 3 speed resistor harness designed for extremely HO fan(s) setups. If you have your old motor still you'll want to retain the temp switch and connector/pigtail. If not, no worry I stock those parts in stock if needed. PM me if ya want. A basic relay kit is about $25 plus shipping. What you need isn't too complicated to assemble and install.

My AC is not functioning at all. I believe the electrical connections are unusable.

Re: Wiring Electric Fan without ECM
that makes life easier when wiring a fan.
get a relay harness
wire 30 and 85 to battery
86 to fan switch in the cylinder head
87 to fan positive wire
the fan can spin both ways (push or pull air) depending on which wire you hook 87 to. test the fan on the battery before you install the wires for good so you know.
voila, you have a automatic cooling fan setup. easy peezy

"get a relay harness

What happens when you shut the engine off after fan has already come on?

Re: Wiring Electric Fan without ECM
That type of relay is not going to last long on any quality dual fan setup being rated @ 30A (from the looks of it...not to mention I can tell by the wiring it is Taiwanese and not rated J1128 for under hood temps) -the inrush current along on a dual fan setup is enough to kill it. But, this depends on what type of dual fans you plan to use. So will this type of single relay work? Yes. For how long? That's is up for debate.

One fan switch, 2 relays and a connector like this one with 2 wires to activate the coil on the relay.
