Burnt rubber smell?????
I think I'm posting this in the right section? Whenever I hit the gas, I get this burning rubber smell that I think is coming in through the vents? I thought it was only when the A/C was on but I've also smelled it without the A/C?? Could it be that my compressor is starting to go? A/C works great....it still has r-12 and it is the second compressor (was replaced in the mid 90's?) The car has 106,xxx miles. After taking it for a spin with the A/C on, I'll look under the hood and look for belts slipping or smoke or ANYTHING with no luck. My smog pump does seem a little wobbly when I tug and pull on the belt, but all the other belts seem fine? Usually if I drive normal I don't notice any burnt rubber smell......but as soon as I get the urge to floor it...lol.
I always notice the smell???? Any help appreciated.

**UPDATE**
I finally figured out the burnt rubber smell.....actually not rubber at all, but quik steel burning. I had used this stuff to repair a connection a few years ago. It had cracked apart and was burning when the engine would get hot (this thing gets super hot and will give you 2nd. degree burns if you don't let it cool down). It's on the passenger side to the right of the oil dipstick.....there is a 3/4" hose that attaches to a metal filter looking thing which turns into a metal line with a big hexagon looking nut and then goes down to some smaller metal lines that look to be part of the exhaust manifold??? I took some pics.....does anyone know what this is or what it does?? Thanks.

Re: Burnt rubber smell?????
That thing is an air check valve for emissions, but your's isn't hooked up properly, it's supposed to go to the diverter valve. The right replacement part is still available, and it's inexpensive.
