sensor to turn on fan at lower temperature
Can someone recommend a sensor to turn on fan at a lower temperature. I want my fan to come on around 180 -190 or whatever, not 220+.
Also will this effect my smog checks in California? It is usually around 100 degrees outside on the day I get it done. It never gets cold here. I saw a post for a couple of different parts but they seem to be out of stock and out of production.
OR should I just go with a toggle switch and turn on the fan myself? I thought about the Hayden relay 3652 but I don't want to put a whole in my radiator. Or am I mistaken of how that hooks up?
Thanks in advance.

GM put it at that level for smog, agree with you, would like it lower, personally I would put in a toggle switch at activates the main fan relay to achieve your goals and you can toggle it off for SMOG inspection.

That Hayden adjustable switch works fine for this. The sensor can be strapped to the edge of the core next to the tank, or just stick it through the fins between the cores. No guesswork, set it where you want it.

Thank you. I was afraid it would require drilling a hole in the radiator. I will go with the Hayden switch. I bought the material for a manual switch but I would rather have it automatic.

195 on 185 off fan switch
However if your primary "on" temp is ECm controlled like for the dual fan cars then you have to reprogram the ECM to make it work right.

Hey everyone,
Not trying to hijack this thread but I was wondering if anyone knew where this sensor plugs in? I thought it was in this spot where the coolant tube connects to th intake manifold, but the sensor there has two leads whereas the sensor I bought has one.
I'm assuming I have the wrong location?
Thanks in advance

The switch plugs into the passenger side head just forward of the dipstick.

Re: sensor to turn on fan at lower temperature
I got a temp switch from corvette central for my dual fan setup that turns on at 200 and off at 185. I had problems with overheating but once I installed the new switch...my temp has never passed 205.

Get a fan switch for an 87 Buick Grand National. Closes at 204 degrees. Exact same thread and electrical connector. If it closes at a temp that is too low (180 degrees), it will be running way too much. Remember, the stock switch doesn't close until 238 degrees!
